Started around $47,000 in MY2001 and it peaked at $49,995 in MY2006 at which leather finally was standard.

That is not correct. It began around $45.5k. I think the number was $45.4k. Definitely less than $46k for NA MSRP. The 2006 model was $48,900.

MY2001 = $46,045 with destination and without Gas Guzzler Tax ($1000), to be exact... http://www.m3forum.com/pressrelease/2001/8.pdf

MY2006 = $49,595 with destination and without Gas Guzzler Tax ($1000), to be exact... http://www.m3forum.com/pressrelease/...m3_pricing.doc

mmmm....

Do you guys think that this increase in the price (new M3) will affect sales? If BMW is planning to sell much more M3's, then they can't just launch the car with a price tag over 60.

My figures come up at carsdirect.com, cargurus.com, etc. The difference is your price includes $645 destination and handling. AFAIK MSRP does not include this charge. The same is true for 2006 except with a $695 D&H.

People have been talking about this for months now. I seriously don't think the price is gonna change the amount of sales BMW is estimating. Some people might not be able to afford it, but others who can afford it I believe will buy it cause of the value. You can't get what the new M3 is giving at a cheaper price. It is def the best value for the performance, luxury, and reliability on the market right now. People have been saying ohh its too expensive I think I will buy a Porsche instead. That makes not sense based on that reason for not buying it.

For the price, there is nothing out there that offers more of what the M3 has to offer.

Until the 650i Twin Turbo shows up for some $73,000...
