Extended Warranty Worth It?

Hey everyone,

I'm sure this question has been asked 1,000 times so I apologize right now for asking again.

I have a 2011 335i xDrive with Nav and HK Stereo. My manufacturer warranty is up at the end of November so I am really weighing whether or not it's worth it to get an extended warranty.

I bought it with about 18k miles last June and it's been in the shop a few times but nothing really major. Right now I'm at about 36k miles so mileage really isn't a concern for me.

I've talked to Jeff Steel and he has a much better deal for a 3yr 30k Platinum option than my dealer so I would definitely go with him.

Is it worth it though? The cost of the warranty alone would mean that I'd need to have at least $1.2k in warranty issues each year to make it worthwhile.

I've heard BMWs are expensive but this is my first one and haven't paid a cent for maintenance and service yet so I'm not sure what to expect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
-Chris

Its always a good idea to warranty expensive european cars, especially if you plan on keeping it for that period of time. I dont foresee $1200 in repairs annually especially on a 2011 but anything can happen. In the end it really depends on you, if you want the sense of security or willing to take the risk and plan to get rid of the car after a few years. Is it one through bmw or a 3rd party company?

It is through an out-of-state BMW dealership. I know my local BMW dealership quoted a $50 deductible. Not sure if that would be any different for the out of state one though.

YMMV.

I bought the extra 2 years for about $1800. I got a brake job on the front end out of it.

Invest in finding a GOOD indy in your area, and put $100 month into an account you don't use on a regular basis. At the end of each year, if you didn't spend it, buy some mods for your car.

For me it was very worth it to get an extended warranty. I got Route66 like most of the guys on here. Got it through my credit union for $2400 3yr/36K miles.

They have already paid close to $4500 in the last 2 weeks for my 2 new turbo replacement, new power steering, and some misc seals and gaskets.

So I have already gotten my monies worth 2 fold.

Thanks for the information! I'll have to check in to Route66. What are your guys thoughts on Gold vs. Platinum?

I do have the HK and Nav but...
