Battery questions **PLZ HELP**

Hi all, it looks like my battery might be going out and i need to change it. I have a 2007 328i coupe. Browsing through the forums its seems its not as straight forward as it looks. I was just going to buy an autozone battery and do it myself but that doesn't seem possible as i need to "register" my battery. Is this true? Even for my older model year? Can i register the battery myself? Does it really even need to be done? I think the battery is only going to last 1 or 2 more days so any help with this matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

Registering a new battery to your car will optimize how your car charges the battery leading to longer battery life. You can put the new battery in the car without registering it and it will run but you may get problems down the road. Most people who don't have the tools to register their own batteries install the battery themselves and take the car to an indy to register. The most I've seen charged for this by an indy is $30.

If you don't replace the battery with OEM and the stats (CCA, AH) are different you will need to code the car to the new battery. This is different than registration as all batteries need to be registered but only batteries of a different rating need to be coded. Your indy should be able to handle this as well. More info on this can be found in the coding section of this forum.

If you DIY there are many tools available that you can use. Some are more user friendly/costly than others, just do your research. Since you seem to think the battery could fail at any time now I would suggest finding an indy in your area to do this for you, especially if you can't be without the car.
