My opinion is that in the short run it would be no different than any other car and depreciate in the same way. This wasn't a limited run and when all is said and done there'd be at least tens of thousands on the road. In 20 years, who knows.

Depends on the cost of the M2 and how many they make.
That being said the M235 isnt going anywhere

I don't think they will drop the M235i but who knows, I have to admit that once M2 is coming out the redundant M name could be confusing to people who don't follow cars.

None of us have a crystal ball, but I can't really envision a situation in which the introduction of an M2 causes the '14/'15/?'16 M235i to increase in value.
This is been hashed and rehashed again and again here, but it seems highly likely that BMW will continue to slot a car between the 228i and the M2. Now, whether that car is called the M235i or just the 235i with an optional M package or something else, who knows? |

i just don't think they woudl do it.
at most they will make a 235i , without all teh M performance stuff standard, and you could option it back up just like the 228i can hav ea track or m sport pack etc. Why would BMW care as long as they can sell the m235i and the m2. the M2 is no doubt going to cost $10k ish more. and that leaves a huge gap. i would figure, this is a company that can make 47 variants of the 3 series, like the 3GT, and X4 etc. i'm pretty sure one extra 2 series variant isnt going to matter. |

I really don't understand how some folks truly believe there won't be anything between a 228i and an M2.
There is a 35i (or similar variant) slotted between the 28i and M variant for every other model BMW makes. Why would the F22 be any different? Not everybody wants to get an M model. Some just like a little more power than the base model provides. It may not be called an M235i but there is nothing in BMW's current lineup to indicate they would leave such a void and force people to go to one extreme or the other. My money is on a 235i and 235xi model being in the lineup if/when the M235i discontinues. |

As a rumor goes, technically speaking, the M235i will be 'discontinued'.
...But, wait, here's the catch: as part of the F22 LCI (Life Cycle Impulse = updated/upgraded model version) BMW will re-engine the M235i with B58B30M0 and re-badge it as "M240i" + will re-engine the 228i with B46B20O0 and re-badge that one as "230i". Start of production of the "230i" and "M240i" = July 2016 | end of production = October 2020. (http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=62 and http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...99&postcount=1) So the alternative question might be: "Once the M240i replaces the M235i (2016) ...what happens?" Leader of the 2er pack will be the M2 (oh, and as talks about an M4 GTS recently emerged, heaven knows whether an M2 GTS or M2 CSL will ever hit the roads someday in the future).

the (coupe) 135i existed long before the 1M and in some countries, there was also the 135is after 1M. hence many of us see the M235i as the '235i' before the M2

-A bold return to a drivers car by a company that has gone fat/plush recently -One of the highest regarded bimmers in years -Universally praised in virtually every review -Awarded the highest Consumer Reports score ever for BMW -32 mpg and 0-60 in 4.5 sec -Iconic Olympic & Drift Mob commercials We all probably assume that an M2 will be "better". Higher hp, LSD, DCT, etc. But we don't *know* how it will drive yet, where it will be priced at, or how it will stack against competitors like a Cayman, etc. A significantly higher price tag with only marginally better performance and a harsher ride are all possibilities that could make folks wistfully remember the sweet spot of price/performance/manners of the M235i. Time will tell... |

The M2 will not replace the M235i, just like the M1 didn't replace the 135i.
The M2 is going to come in at a higher price point (likely $50-55k starting price) to slot it below the M5 and I'm sure will be able to option out close or above the starting price of the M3. There is no reason for them to "Stop" selling the M235, all of the work to release and certify the car is done.

1M was announced in July, 2010 and production stopped in 2012. The M135i was launched at the 2012 Geneva auto show. It was different than the 135is.

I think the M235i will not be forgotten because it is the best BMW out right now but I don't think it will be a classic. It's too "nice." I work at a college and was standing in line early one saturday morning getting bagels with hungover college students. I could hear the girls behind me talking about the party the previous nights and all the hot boys they met. Then one girls says to the other....what about Robbie? He's pretty hot and he's on the football team.....and he's sooooo into you. The other girl replies....yeah...he's hot...and he likes me......but.....mmmmmm...he's just too nice! (TRUE STORY) |

If BMW drops the M235i, I just might end up being the only owner in our town!
