Max eDrive range tested - post your own!

I today tested max eDrive range using pure electric motor. My car was fully charged at the beginning of the test, 1/4 fuel, carrying one adult (me) and one child. I used Eco Pro all the time and the whole test was driven at the same session.

Conditions: dry road, no wind, air +9.5 C degree. Overcast.

Result range: exactly 25.5 km (15.8 miles) when battery reached 10% charge and abandoned full electric eDrive mode.

After unplugging the car, eRange was 27 km. During the run range prediction varied between 24-26 km, so the final result was pretty much same as the car told me. I drove really carefully, made max anticipations, max speed was only 70 km/h and notable part of the run was driven at 30-50 km/h speed. There were about 4-5 complete stops during the test and needless to say, max regeneration was used in all of them. I hardly braked at all.

This is my result now. Please drive your own and post it here. We can then compare results.

I also observed charging time with Sport after test. It seems that my initial estimation of 1 km/1 min eRange generation time is pretty accurate. To charge battery to 50% took 10 minute drive with Sport, so it's equal to 4% charge every minute. Full charge can be reached by driving with Sport for 22-23 minutes. I don't know if driving speed is related to charging speed, but I drove towntown speeds now.

Please note that i8 doesn't charge battery at Sport when you are not moving! In traffic lights there was no charging and immediately you started to move, charge-% started to climb.

Maximum range

I have had my i8 since the start of December, I've covered 1330 miles since then.maximum e drive range is 14 miles, average fuel consumption is 48.2 miles per imperial gallon, but to achieve this figure I have been driving very carefully. When driving in sport mode the consumption quickly begins to drop. I think an average of 44 to 46 mpg is possible.i drive to work and home again every day in e drive mode which helps the consumption . Motorway driving in Eco mode seems to be the best mode. Temperature here in Scotland is around 5 degrees now, which I think is affecting the battery range, hopefully when spring & summer arrive the range will increase.i would welcome any tips from other i8 drivers.

I have 1055 miles on my i8, delivered 9 weeks ago tomorrow. I have so far used 16 gallons of petrol, which converts to 65.8 MPG. I use the car for short, in town trips. For trips less than 12 miles I use electric only. For the rest I've used a combination of electric only and sport mode to charge the battery, using sport up hills (I have a lot of them) and electric down hills. Hills are the real gas mileage killer.

When the car was a few days old I drove it to the beach, then the highest part of the Santa Monica range and then back to my house. My MPG for the 24 mile jaunt was 19.8 MPG.

The longest I've gone on electric only is 12.8 miles. I returned to the house with 1 mile left for electric driving, and the gas-powered motor didn't turn on. Full charging took 2 hrs 15 mins.

Right now I have 3 BMWs I drive. By next year I'll reduce my fleet to the i8 and a 2016 M4 coupe. That's when I'll start to drive the i8 more. And by then the all electric novelty should have worn off.

Done 20+ miles all-electric a few times. Just takes the right kind of driving. OBC screenshot from. 21-mile run attached.
