So 428i and 435i have almost identical 0-60??? 5.3 vs 5.2

And close enough 1/4 mile....very surprised.

Should I consider a 428i, it actually puts down nice numbers!!

You are comparing manual vs auto.

Didn't notice that, thanks for pointing that out...

How much faster is the auto 435i? I can't find a 0-60 time for it

Yeah...only a 0.1 second difference indicates they are as fast as each other since 0-60 is the best indicator of speed. That's really a dead heat and shows the power difference has no effect.

Nevermind that the 435i goes from 60-100 MPH 2.2 seconds faster, and gets to 150 MPH several seconds faster than the 428 can get to 140 MPH. That's meaningless since no one goes that fast anyway, but I launch my car at every intersection.

haha sounds like someone got their panties in a bunch

Last time I checked, people don't drive 150mph but then again maybe you do with your uber fast 435i that is god sent

The 35 is substantially faster than the 28. I can hit 100 in the mid 10s, the 28....don't think so. It will also pull a lot harder at high speeds.

If you're considering either car, drop the extra coin and opt for the 435. The inline 6 is well worth the extra few thousand.

4.6. Also note that in most cases the 35i can hit the 1/4 in the low 13s @ 105mph. The 28i can break into the very high 13s but fail to break the 100s for the trap speed. If it breaks the very very low 100s (like 100.xmph) for trap speed it will do so with a very low 14s time (it won't break the 13s with that trap speed). It can't break into the high 13s and break into the very low 100s (100.x) at the same time.

Car and Driver also got 4.6s 0-60 with the 335i. Then another day they got 5.2s.

You can't really compare results across different days, different conditions, different drivers, different cars, and different tires. There's no doubt the 435i is faster than the 428i under identical conditions.

No sir. The 335i auto will consistently get 4.6/4.7s. It will also consistently get you to 13.3s through the quarter. If you ever see 5.2 to 60 you can be certain that's a manual not the auto or the test is being performed in a country other the US.

That's what I thought....But when I saw the results for the 435i on caranddriver I was pretty surprised....

I still think the 428i is really not that bad, considering its a 4cyl, its faster than a lot of cars out there...

Wow it's either terrible drivers or the manual should be retired because Edmunds got 5.6 for the 0-60 on the 435i WTF??????

"The 435i has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine rated at 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. At our test track, a 435i coupe equipped with the six-speed manual charged from zero to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, which is good for this class of car."

And Roadandtrack got 5.0 for the auto 435i 0-60

Regardless, that four-cylinder is unlikely to sound as alluring as the 435i's mighty, 302-hp turbo straight-six. That powerhouse costs $5500 on top of the base coupe, but it brings with it a 5.3-second sprint to 60 mph (5.0 with the eight-speed automatic).

BMW for 435i claims 0-62MPH in:
5"4 stock MT
5"1 stock AT
5"2 stock MT xdrive
4"9 stock AT xdrive
5"1 MPPK MT
4"8 MPPK AT
4"9 MPPK MT xdrive
4"6 MPPK AT xdrive
So, between MT and AT there are 0"3.
I tested a 328i and for me there's a big difference between 28i and 35i, wich becomes wider at higher speed

Personally, on a flat road I recorded (with LapTimer) 4"9 with a lot of wheel spin...

Here you go, 5.3s 0-60. From the same guys that got 4.6s.

Exactly and that's because it's a manual transmission. Manual transmissions will consistently get 5.2/5.3. Autos will consistently get 4.6/4.7

No you have to be careful when comparing edmunds results to C&D. Edmunds will tell you the results without one foot rollout, that's the 5.6 you quoted. With rollout is should be 5.3 which then compares to the 5.2 you have from Car and Driver

5 was without one foot rollout which then becomes 4.7 with one foot rollout comparable to Car and Drivers results

I always find it funny that the people defending the 335i or the 328i are the ones who happen to have one haha

To be honest I am not defending anything just correcting some mistakes. Either car is fast enough for me
