Testing out Oil Temperature Gauge

I am testing this ScanGuage II from a company called Linear Logic. They have a custom firmware that has a few extra readouts for the MINI series, and as you know BMW owns Mini. They gave it to me for a week to play with it and if it has what I need I could purchase it or return it for a full refund.

I was specifically looking for Oil Temperature, Oil Pressure, and Coolant Temperature.

So far the results are looking good, and it's a quick and easy way to get these gauges. I'll post pictures shortly!

ScanGauge 2 on BMW m235i

Here are some pictures for you guys to check out. The going rate for this is $159.99, if you like it though you should order directly through them since they have to load a custom MINI firmware on it.

ha whatever floats your boat. read the rest of the post, price is there.

Go get a p3cars, Akron DGA vent setup, or if your bottomless wallet supports it get a 3ddesigns 3 gauge pod, and Stack Pro 52mm stepper motor gauges.

Since my car is a driver car, I won't sacrifice a vent

if you really are tracking your car all day, then get a real gauge setup. This is for curiosity, and you can program it for other gauges if you put the effort in. I can remove it and not have to worry about BMW bitching about voiding the warranty.

just stating my humble opinion

Whatever works

You can also use a phone app to get that stuff for an external setup like this. This look like something from 1980s

Yes you can get a Bluetooth ODBII ELM327 adapter, and the Torque App.

IMHO, it does the job, and provides what the manufacturer should have

What are you using for Oil Temperature ?

Waiting for a v2 p3car gauge

Again, whatever works..dont have to be fancy but I do like the p3 setup

If this was like $80..i'll hit it but not for $100+

Nice, it's definitely not as fancy as the P3, but it's less than half the cost, and has just as many readings. Options are good

It still baffles me that BMW can't just whip up a quick software fix where at a minimum the oil temp would show on the odometer/trip computer. Especially since it's an MPV which is like 7/10ths an M car.
