Thinking of trading my E90 in on a 4xx GC--Questions

I am debating with myself of trading my 2010 e90 (328) in on a F36...

My current car is this ...

since this picture I have added a CSL trunk with carbon fiber exposed on the top edge of the spoiler. I also have on order a 1M front bumper and it has an Mtech rear bumper.

I have not driven a 4 series yet, but I love the style of the GC. How different is it than the e90 drive?

For those that have made the switch, what do you like better about the GC over the e90 and vice a versa?

Any packages to avoid or any must haves? I know I want Comfort access and nav...with Msport

I have a 328 now and I have had fast cars in the past (see sig line)...so i am not sure on the 435 vs the 428...I do like the sound of a nice exhaust though and that is lacking in my current e90.

Is the e90 and 4 GC totally different or not enough to merit the change?

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

You're just going to have to drive the 4GC and decide for yourself. You've asked a question that only you can answer.

I owned E90 for 6 years and was hesitant initially to move to the F30 (can't tell you much about GC). But now I love the ride but I went for the 19'inch wheels. The F30 is more comfortable and yet feels really tight in terms of driving and feel. I guess the F30 chassis is much more stiffer than the E90, due to which BMW can slightly soften the dampers/suspension. Hence you get a the best of both worlds - comfort and sport.

Enjoy!

the 4GC is softer, steering feel is a little different.

If you get the M Sport, you may run into issues with the cooling system (Aux fan dies)=no true fix from BMW.

Get the PPK port installed, it's worth it. Get the Dynamic Suspension, but get the Dinan Shockware installed before delivery.

Premium package is a no brainer.

.

Just wondering where did you hear this? Is this a known thing?

The steering is fine IMO. I have the 19'inch wheels and 2014 model and the bigger wheels help with a tighter ride. BMW has improved the steering feel quite a bit and its very close to the E90 I had. Not as tight but very close. I test drove the 2012 ones when they were out and didn't like the ride or the feel that time.

I JUST made a switch from an E90 335d to the 435i. It's like night and day when shoD with the M-sport. Although the steering is much lighter, the M-sport fixes that god awful base suspension. The 4-series is also significantly wider than the E90. Great ride. It's a grand coupe for sure.

One of the best things about the 4-series....Real cup holders.

I drove a 2013 e90 in a test drive last year and I didn't like it as much as my 2010...good to hear it has improved.

Thanks...I still can't decide between the 428 and the 435....but a test drive of each will take care of that. I will go this weekend and talk to them and drive.

435 - I will tell you I moved from an e90 335 m sport (2011) to a 2014 335 m sport - I was hesitant initially and did notice the lighter steering-AT FIRST - but now i can't even tell you how much i love my car - haven't missed my e90 a bit. The f30 is much much better. Just a process of trading a car you love for another.

It's a very different car than an E90 (I'm referring to theF3X series in general as they all drive the same is similarly equipped).

Of course the 4GC is very good looking. The major differences are the steering, handling and interior. I see your E90 is an xDrive so does not have sport suspension unless you modded the car. It will be the same for a 4GC xDrive. If you want sporty handling the DHP is a must. The steering will be lighter which may be a good thing for some but most definitely lacking in feel compared to the E90.

The interior is very different and IMO sportier and more driver oriented. The quality of the leather and some of the plastic pieces is below that of the E90. Not a huge deal IMO. The best part of the car for many is the awesome ZF 8AT. One of the world's great automatic transmissions and perfectly tuned for the 428 and 435.

Overall the 4GC will be more comfortable, better looking and softer than the E90 but will handle less crisply.

Get it, it will grow on you. I just went from an E90 328 to an F30 328.

The more I drive my F30 the more I love it.

I can relate to you. I had the same mindset but now I love the F30 steering and feel. Think of it as refined E90 ride.

How is your 2011 328 configured?

Interesting how opinions can differ!

I have no objections about my F30 335 (option 704 suspension) after having an E90 328 sport/6MT (tracked so regularly it had a NASA NorCal time trials log book...)

There are differences I had to get used to going to F30 (low speed weight of the steering, softer rear suspension) but I haven't looked back since making the switch

And looking back at the e90, really makes you appreciate the f30 updates (design, tech, etc) while at the same time retaining the core qualities.

Kinda like e46 to e90

It was a RWD 328i, 6MT, no 704 suspension. I don't object to how my F30 drives but it's less communicative and understeer's more than my E90 did.

My 2011 328 6mt non sport was far more communicative and handled better than my f30 328 Msport. It also had much stiffer suspension. The e90 was more fun to drive. The f30 fits my child hauling and shopping needs better, especially with those fold down rear seats!!!

Thanks...I do love my current car, but something about the F36 is calling me...

I saw some MPG #s on the 328 and the 335 and they are not that far off. How is your real world MPG on the 335? I may go that route if MPG isn't far off...We do a fair amount of city and hwy driving...my wife drives more spirited than I do...(it is out of my system) but I do like to see how quickly I can get to the speed limit, then back off.

I will definitely get another X drive...as I am moving to NY soon, so I will know what winters are compared to no winter in the south. I did not mod the suspension on my current e90.

Interesting about the ZF 8AT...I was leaning towards a 6MT. my current e90 is an auto and I have always owned MT...so I miss going through the gears.

that is exactly how I see the car...a refined e90 from the outside. A baby 6 gran coupe, minus the amenities of the better leathers and such.

That way if you search anything you'll find something or the other. Well, lets see.. but I love the M Sport look and no fog lights.

I have 2011 E90 328. I've been thinking of making the switch to 435 GC. Problem is, it's way too damn expensive here in Canada. I would compromise and consider F30 335. Either way, I would definitely go for the bigger engine.

I have the BMW Performance exhaust on my 328 and I just don't think I can drive another car without it lol. It's like music to my ears.
