Don't have the technology package for my 228i, when I ant to listen to the music on my iPhone 5s soon to be 6' do I just plug in my cord to the Aux outlet and my phone or do I need something special to play my music.

Use the y cable that came with car. You'll need to get a 30 pin to lighting adaptor. Using this setup allows you to control playback through idrive. No tech package on mine either

I've never needed anything more than a USB cable or a BT connection. Being able to control your media is not a problem if you use the built-in music app, but third-party apps can get tricky.

I can just get any 30pin lighting adapter and it'll work through the idrive? I'm not into playing music off pandora or anything just my normal iPod/iPhone music app on the phone

I'm buying this one now...will my BMW will come with the y cable or do I have to order one of those too? Being able to control through iDrive is great too. I wasn't sure I would be able to even do that.
