BMW Private Track Day @ PIR

BMW has been touring the country with free track day opportunites set up through the dealers. I went yesterday. The track session is a lead-follow (professional instructors) in 12 all 6 & 7-series cars (pretty much every thing from 740iD to 760iL & 650GC). Each turn was 1.9 laps of the track, 2/car, with driver switch every stop & car switch every other. I did about 5 laps and my friend about 5. Got up to 127 on the straight.

The autocross was a bit more fun with 5 M cars - 3, 4, 5, 6 Vert & 6Gc. Again, 2/car switching the same way. Not a full track experience, but fun to do withwell over $1M someone of else's cars, anyhow!

I was invited by BMW Portland; Kuni BMW was today, in the rain.

Here are my (very few) pics: http://greg-w.smugmug.com/BMW-track-day-92314/n-K68Nh/.

Track session (lead 2 M6s were instructors' cars):

I heard the instructors drive really fast, and friends of mine who were experienced track drivers said they struggled to keep up. Was this your experience?

I couldn't attend when BMW was at Lime Rock due to work.

Greg, how does one get an invite? Do you need to be a current M car customer?

I didn't have much problem keeping up, even though I don't have much track experience. They don't want to leave the followers behind, so will slow if someone is not keeping up.

I have no clue. It's not an M thing. There were about 50 people there and not all were BMW owners, I believe. I think it's up to the dealer who to invite.

I had a great time. Ended up knowing four others. If you have never been to the track this event would be perfect. I have a few track days under my belt so didn't really feel I was able to push the cars.......fun none the less.

Greg, unrelated, you can pass along my contact info as requested. I can't PM nor post on your wall... Thanks.
