09 135i vs 14 335xi

Hi All,

I just got my 14 335xi w/ the m performance package. This is my first car with xdrive and I'm wondering if anyone converted from an 09 135i.

For some reason, my 335xi feels a lot slower than the 135i. Granted it feels exactly like the demo cars that I drove, I'm just wondering why my 09 135i pulled sooooo much harder and the exhaust was more aggressive sounding.
I don't have any concrete evidence...just a butt dyno.

I know the 335 is heavier by a couple of hundred pounds but I didn't think the added weight would cause the car to feel that much slower.

Did BMW change anything from the 09 to 14 to make the new cars feel slower?
Maybe the 335xi just has a smoother feeling?

I never test drove the new 235i but maybe I should've for comparison.

I just moved from a 2008 135 (6spd) to a 2015 335i RWD (8spd). I have the M power pack and the M performance exhaust.

My 135 was maybe a tick faster in a straight line but it would be close. Real close. 335 feels much tighter...especially in sport or sport+...but steering a bit light in comfort or econ mode.

Exhaust note on my 135 was good but the MPE is AWSOME! Very happy with the sound. Nice bark to the note but not obnoxiously loud.

I test drove a 335i back to back with a 335xi. Well I can see a great benefit of AWD on the street I could notice the added weight both with the handling and the straight line speed. That could be part of the difference for you?

As far as the 235...I had one out for an extended test drive. It really moves! Handling was great and the overall feel of the car was good. My kids are now teenagers and getting into the back of the 2 door was not working anymore. Time for a 4 door or I would have traded my 135 on a 235.

Thx for the reply!
I guess the xdrive really does kill the performance then because this new car feels nothing like my 135.

My dealer said that the car still needs to be broken in first and it will start to perform better after that. I only have 300 km on my car right now. lol

Guess I'll need to re-evaluate after I put a couple of thousand km on it!

Let the car break in a little then make your judgement..

I find about 1500 miles the car is operating at full performance..and it doesn't matter the brand.

I wouldn't say Xdrive kills performance. It has some great advantages. Just comparing the 135/335i/335xi with back to back drives you can notice a difference. I am not knocking on Xdrive! Once the motor is broken in then you can always look into MPPK or Juice Box or Dinan tune if you need more power.

He has MPPK.

I honestly think it's a combo of it loosening up....and....the fact that you're 350-400 lbs heavier since you have xDrive. RWD might have felt closer. Never drove a 135i to compare...but my MPPK RWD 335i feels as fast or faster than N54 335s I've driven in the past.

x-drive pulls evenly so the feeling is much less then in RWD car, had the same issue, went from Z4 35is which is a rocket

The M package is different from the MPPK. The m package includes 19" wheels, variable sport steering, m suspension, m brakes. The M performance power kit adds the 35hp/32lbs. I thought his car had the m package but not the power kit.

I actually have both.
The M Sport package for the rims and styling and the MPPK!

I think it's like someone said above, the xdrive makes the power feel very smooth. I guess I wanted it to be a little bit more rough around the edges. lol

My previous car was a 2011 135i MT with PPK. The N55 135i's were even louder than the previous model N54 year cars, so it especially made my 335i sound silent in comparison. My 8AT 335i without PPK feels every bit as quick as my 135i did, if not stronger and but I'm certain it's down to the transmission suiting the motor better. After driving a few 335i/435i 6MT's, I'm fairly sure they feel almost dead similar to my 135i.
