Ipod Problems; Annoying!!!

So I took my Ipod connection cord with usb connection and aux out of my 335is and plugged it into my M4. I got the cord from Vista BMW 3 years ago.

Well, my Ipod is, "not recognized" in my M4. My service advisor said he has encountered the same problem in his 435 gran coupe.

I have my phone hooked up through bluetooth, although it is annoying when the music stops everytime I send a text message. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS?!?!

I'm using an old classic that I leave in my car all the time and I have had zero issues with it connected via USB cable.

Have you tried using a regular iPod cable (like the white one that comes with the iPod) rather than the old BMW Y cable? When I swapped my MULF for a media Combox in my 2010 e92, I had to switch from the Y cable to a regular iPod cable to get my iPod to be fully functional--such as showing album art on iDrive.

going to pick mine up saturday morning (M4) - dealer advised me that the plain "white USB cable" (lightning) should work just fine.
I have them prepare the Y-cable from BMW as well (used to have it on my E92 335 for the last 5 years and worked fine).
I have the "extended smartphone support" option but I won't take the iPhone cradle (since iPhone 6 is going to take ages to be released by BMW), I'll use the phone via bluetooth and I have an old 160GB iPod classic, and a newer one - thin, but same length as iPod classic, not very new either, with 16 GB. going to bring both and try them right as I take over the car, so I don't have to come back to them if something's not working as expected. will post my experience here (probably only sunday after 2d of driving non-stop

I never thought of doing this. I always assumed you need both USB and the AUX to be plugged in. Now it works!! Thank you!

I had an issue with my old style iPod/cable that I use exclusively for the car, taking it out only to load more music. My fix was switching to the old style cable that actually "clicks" when it connects to the iPod if you know what I'm referring to? The old cords had a release tab on both sides of the cord where it connects. I have attached a picture of this. It's the only one I could get to work. Good luck!

No F80/82 should be using the Y cable with any iPhone/iPod: BMW Apps is standard.

Update: I used the old generation cord (the wide one, but WITHOUT the clips on the side) and plugged it in directly to the USB port. No Y cable needed, and now it works. The album art is a little blurry compared to streaming the music from my phone via bluetooth, but for now, it works. I imagine upgrading to a newer ipod/cord will be the best fix.

Every so often when Apple updates its ipod/ipad/iphone system software, they extend a small f*ck you to after market cable manufacturers, and they stop working. This is a known issue. So far only Amazon makes Apple approved cables for some reason.

Before you do that, spend an hour on the differences between Iphone 6 and Note 4, most of what is now a real excitement with IOS devices, has been around for a few years now with Android, and most of that has been built into the android devices without having to access it through "apps". i.e. wifi calling with your "real phone number" been around for 3 years, face to face without wifi 4 years, its never taken an app for that, talking navigation turn by turn, built into android phones for 5 years never an app. Sorry when I hear the apple talk it just gets me going, would love to do an off topic post soon on this. Universal usb mini cables have always worked fine in my BMW's, they really try and lock you in with their stupid cables thats for sure.

I have always looked at comparisons like this similar to "if you don't know whats really better, then what difference does it make anyway".

Also, album art, contact photos, etc have been coming up on my Idrive screen for a few years now via bluetooth, not sure if thats possible with IOS sytems especially if bluetoothed.
