Winter tyres

This response from BMW UK in response to my query about availability of the winter wheel / tyre package

"Thank you for your online enquiry dated September 16, 2014, in relation to when a winter wheel / tyre package will be available for the new BMW M3.

At present, there is no date set for the release of the 2014 winter wheel and tyre package. I can confirm that when this becomes available details will be listed on the BMW website. I have provided you with a link to the website below, for your convenience:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/en/index.html

Alternatively, you can keep in contact with the personnel at your local BMW Approved Centre, for any changes."

The options would at present seem to be :-

Another set of OEM 19s but tyres expensive

Staggered OEM 18s as per US spec but no pilot Alpins in correct size so other tyres needed

Front OEM 18s all round giving 9" wide wheels with 255/40 18s all round

I called my local dealer and they said no winter tyre package information available yet and asked me to call back early October for an update.

Aren't the BMW prices gonna be overpriced?

Would it not make sense to go 3rd party?

I have always found that genuine BMW wheels get very good secondhand prices when sold on so that the cost of ownership is not bad.

Yes second hand prices on genuine BMW wheels is indeed good.

Depending on the dealer they will also offer free swap over of summers/winters and storage.

Update, as have made progress. Though no winter tyre package as yet dealer can order the wheels that will be used from Germany (for 18s which will be fine for winter style 640M 8.5 x18 and 9 x 18, apparently 255/40 18 continental tyres will be used all round).

I have 2 slightly used Michelin Pilot Alpins PA4s that size which I prefer so have ordered 2 more locally. Also ordered 4 tpms valves.

No doubt we will now have a winter without snow or ice

I ordered the 640M Winter Package today.
Expected delivery 2 to 3 weeks.

Probably won't snow but it's my daily drive.

As I understand it once the wheels are on the car initialised via the idrive. Getting my tyres on the 640ms today and hopefully tomorrow (can only carry 2 at a time) but probably won't put on car till end of the month so won't know till then.

Here are some pictures. Only got tyres onto 2 wheels (the 9J rears) so far as need to get the others off 330d winter wheels. The tyres are Michelin Pilot Alpin pa4 all 255/40/18

I've been toying with the idea of a winter wheel set up for my F80. Does anybody know if the E90 wheels will fit? I've got a set of OEM 19" BMW staggered wheels (with summer tyres on at the moment) that I used to run on my 335d touring. It would be a lot cheaper for me to stick winters (255 35 r19) and valves on those if they do.
... I could of course get the jack and wheel brace out and try them for myself, but if anybody else has done it and could let me know...?

I'd be interested in this too - I have E90 270M style winter wheels - would be good to know if they will fit an F30/80, or even an F10. I recall reading the bolts were slightly different, but should not make a bit difference?

E & F series cars use different size wheel bolts so wouldn't fit.
