Which winter wheel to choose?

Help choose a wheel for winter setup. Can anyone photoshop the wheels on a estroil blue m235i?

Just click "View on Vehicle" on the tire rack page to see what the wheels will look like on your car.

I tried that. The black ones totally disappear against the black tire. You can't really see the detail of the wheel.

Monte Titanium. Why? Two reasons:
1) Titanium looks much nicer on EB.
2) 5 Spoke design will be much easier to clean the crud / snow / salt out of than the more detailed versions. In my opinion, keep the nicer designs for summer tires/looks.

I'm also hunting CL for used BMW OEM wheels for winter sets as well. They tend to be much cheaper than new stuff and fairly hardy/sturdy.

I want 17 inch and square setup for winter. I had it on my 135i and it worked great.

I'm just going with Nokian Hakka R2's in 225/40/18 on the OEM wheels. That way I can get a set of 19s for summer.

Having 3 sets of wheels for the car just seemed a bit much to me.

Will all 4 of theses wheels fit over the m235i m sport brakes? I have been looking at 2 of them myself and was worried about brake clearance.

According to Tirerack these 17's are supposed to fit. I have talked to there support and they said provided you chose your car from the drop downs correctly. What is listed will fit an M235i.

If you click on my links you will see it says M235i

Thanks for the response. I had configured it on tire rack as well, just a little nervous about the brake clearance even when it says it will fit since ordering online. I will likely get the titanium ones based on the opinions others have shared.

I just ordered these, which they also test fit and know work with the blue caliper MSport brakes. I am wrapping them with 215/50-17 Blizzak WS80 after reading tirerack.com's recent test where it beat the Michelin X-Ice-xi3.

Awesome. I thought about those but liked the darker rims to hide the dirt.

I get that, but with Valencia Orange, I have to be sensitive to the Halloween look. Also not getting the all-black grilles!

As a guy who has driven a LOT in winter and snow, avoid split spoke rims. Snow packs in and unbalances the tire.

Also, listen to the postings about Nokian and WS80 tires.

Good advice. I am leaning towards the single spoke for easy cleaning but do like the titanium double spoke look

Have a look at this one which is very similar to the 235 OEM.

It even has a small rectangular space for the M badge !!!

Looks nice but they are a lot more. I don't want to spend much on a winter wheel as they take a beating.

Slightly off-topic, but after seeing your post I went looking for that test. All I could find is the below link, which is reporting on a "demonstration" hosted by Blizzak, not an independent evaluation done by Tire Rack.

Yes, Bridgestone hosted the event, but Tire Rack wrote their own editorial content based on their experiences doing the driving. The copy was not an "advertorial" or press release. Unless you are suggesting the tires were somehow a set of "ringers", Tire Rack testers still reached their own conclusions.

I've been considering doing this as well. I have the wider rear setup with 245s. I'm concerned the rears will be too wide for optimal snow traction. Does anyone know the smallest tire that will fit on the rear "mixed" setup?

Thanks
