It never fails when ASS is on

OK, I really am trying to use auto stop/start as much as I can.
My in town driving sucks with all the lights around, so it would really be a great benefit to keep on.

But every.single.time I have it on and approach stopped traffic at a light there's that guy who waits until I'm completely stopped, engine off and then decides to slowly creep up another car length.
Seriously, it never fails.
And in NJ you can never leave a car length (or less) in front of you because some idiot will stick their nose in and try to get in front of you.

So you have no choice but to let off the brake, start the engine again and creep forward.
But its too slow for ASS to re-engage so the engine just stays running, negating the fuel savings.
And if by some chance you are off the brake long enough for ASS to shut the engine off again that guy will creep up again.

Dont they know Im trying to save gas - and the world?!

And what if ASS is off or Im in sport mode - yeah the creeping never happens.

I cant wait until more cars have this feature so everyone else can feel the pain!

ok, thats my rant, feel free to flame me for my first world problem

I hate creepers. Seriously, why not just stop where you want to stop? When I drove a stick I used to really have a deep hatred of them, but it's waned since I switched to autos.

Nope. I learned right from wrong from my parents. Later in life I've come to understand that it's counterproductive to get excited every time someone does something that I wouldn't necessarily do myself.

on the other side of the coin. my wife and i were at a red light waiting for th elight to change and the car was off. The guy behind us didnt see us stopped and slammed on his brakes. By the time my car started it would have been too late to move up and out of the way. Luckily he stopped just in time. But it does create a cause for concern.

Agreed. It's the world we live in. Everyone likes to poke NJ drivers in jest.

Unfortunately, we're now living in an "I want it now" world where no one has time or concern for anyone but themselves. It never ceases to amaze me the things people do on the road behind the anonymity of their cars. One of my main pet peeves is folks who try to block others from merging onto a roadway or into an adjacent lane if there's is ending/blocked. Another is folks who ride the bumper of the car in front of them in the left lane even though they're one of a dozen cars in the left lane and they're all moving considerably faster than the other lanes.

this is very simple... when you are slowing down and pulling up to a red light move the stick to DS.. this will prevent it from shutting off once everyone has settled in their spots and theres no more space for the dude in front to keep moving forward move the stick back and then the car will shut off..

+1 I do this sometimes when I can foresee this being a problem.

This is where I hope the AH3 technology gets used in the rest of the line-with the electric motor you not only have the ability to creep up but also have the ability to hit the accelerator and get moving right away.
Only problem I have is I get tired of the engine shutting on and off in traffic, so tend to drive with the stick pushed over to M: but sometimes I automatically move the lever thinking it's in M when it's in D and then nothing happens because it's been moved into neutral-there's that moment of panic with the engine revving and nothing happens, then you have to run through the hit the brake, move to D, then go while the guy behind you nails his horn and you realize you are 'that guy'. On well.

Oh man I hate that too. Even though I drive automatic now I still hate it. It's like just stop like a normal person you fuck twit. ahhh Then there's the people who stop, they don't creep up, but they do sit there with 2.5 car lengths ahead of them. fukahhhh

Hi, I live on the planet too. I give you permission to keep the ASS off in your car so you can solve this problem. The $6 you save in fuel a year is not worth the stress you are undergoing nor the six-hundredth of a billionth of a second the planet may last longer (that's if the sun doesn't burn it up first).

Go ahead, free yourself from the ASS!

I wonder what the carbon footprint is to manufacture the starter. I would imagine this part would need replacing often if ASS was used frequently. The money saved would be used to buy a new starter or solenoid.

Not sure if this also applies to auto BMWs, but in the new A3 (and probably newer Audis too) if you keep your foot on the brake lightly, while at a stop, the ASS doesn't kick in. It's meant specifically for times like those that you described! It works a treat..

I've encountered this same issue and yes, I just stay in my original spot and end up looking like I'm the one that can't stop at a light. Stop inching forward people!

People do that everywhere. Thankfully people here don't move up an entire car length, it's just usually a few inches, and it's not worth moving up for this

I was behind a minivan the other day and she inched up no less than 4 times during the red light, all while being distracted and arguing, or whatever, with her kids.
But I was happy to stay as far away from her as possible anyway!

Yes, ive heard the argument, does ASS really make a difference, and it probably doesnt.
But hey, I like using all the options in the car, so figured Id give it an honest try.

Now I started seeing Chevy commercials advertising the feature, so I guess its only a matter of time before it gets real popular and more cars at the light have it.

When you are at a complete stop ASS initiates and turns off the engine. Has anyone encountered when all of a sudden the engine turns back on when you haven't even let off the break or turned the wheel? It's happen to me and I can't figure out why it does that sometimes
