Voiding the warranty?

Hey guys,

Just wondering but if I were to change my own brake rotors and pads, would that be grounds to deny/void drivetrain warranty?

I didn't think it would, but someone warned me they are getting very strict on non licensed mechanics doing work on vehicles and warranties.

Any info would be appreciated!

Cheers

I've done it since I have a car.
4th BMW, and still no problem with my dealer.

But then again, if they would ever complain, I am a licensed technician (previous work life)...

The only thing they could legitimately argue is if you replaced your own brakes then brought it in for a problem with the brakes you just replaced. I have no idea who it works North of the Border though. I say go for it. What could go wrong?

and only then if there was a defect in the brake pads or rotors. It would not affect your Calipers or master cylinder and such. Ther eis no harm in changing your brake pads since that is a saefty item you can alwyas argue that you had to change them for safety purposes.

BTW if you do go ceramic. A lot less dust.

Be careful, the pads dust so much because they work so well. Going to harder pads will result in less dust, but it will also generally result in less performance.

I do not believe it will void your warranty.

They are.
They will replace them if its needed, but if you want new ones before that or just want to put on different ones then thats obviously not covered.

Does that mean that if something goes wrong with the brakes within the 4 years of ownership, they will not repair it? They will only replace it when it wears?
