Active Sound
Is there a way to adjust the volume of the active sound? So much has been made of the artificial sound inside the car. Honestly, I can't really tell it's there, which means wow the stock exhaust is quiet. I'm on the verge of getting the M PE but I am worried I'll be disappointed with it as most of the reviews say it sounds great on start up and light rev'ing but not so great when the revs increase. I know this topic has been discussed too much already...

Sorry, not to thread jack but in that same vein, How does active sound adapt to different exhaust? Does it simply amplify sound or is it engineered sound? Ie will it mix tunes if you put different exhaust in?

It is said that asd only accounts for 10% of the sound anyway You can disable ads through coding but don't think you can change volume |

My understanding was that it just amplifies sound near the resonators in the stock exhaust and pipes it in through the speakers based on air flow sensors. Hence when you go to sport and it increases you get the louder noise. Along with a little boost to sound levels. That being said I didn't know if they engineered the actual notes for the exhaust. If so then I think I will have to disable ads when my new exhaust gets here.

mmm.... but if you do DSC off (hold 5 secs)... you also get ASD but you don't get sport throttle mapping or shift.... so don't think sport is related with louder exhaust

if you hold the DSC button for 5 seconds deactivating all the stability controls, you get the louder exhaust even though you are not in "sport" mode (so comfort throttle mapping and comfort shift points if you have an automatic)
you can easily test this..... with the car parked, rev up to 1800-2000 rpm.... hold the DSC button for 5 secs and when DSC gets deactivated you will hear louder exhaust....no keep the revs at 2000rpm and hit DSC again to turn it on and you will see the exhaust goes quiet again |

apparently yes... but be careful cause you have no stability control...
also DSC off puts the chassis in sport meaning heavier steering and harder suspension... |

Thanks for this info! I always thought it was just based on pre-computerized sounds. Are you sure its not just your exhaust is louder lol?? It's great that we have the option to to turn it off.

I had my active sound coded off, I just prefer to hear the actual sound of the car and it bugged me not knowing what was the car and what was coming out of the speakers. You can definitely notice a difference, but when you get on it, the car doesn't need any added sound effects. The exhaust note is real.

Thats a poor recommendation as the stereo wont work ! Every m135i and 235i is fitted with this so have your dealer code it out on your next software update !! cost me $100 and its well worth it , I had the auto start stop coded out at the same time as that pissed me off also.

It's not meant to be a permanent solution.. You can buy the cable and code it yourself too |
