Which GoPro edition to use?

I looked at the GoPro website and around the forum but didn't get my answer ...

My GoPro Hero (original) is getting a but old and it's time for a new one. I'll be using it at DEs, for autox, and drives.

Which GoPro edition are you guys using and why? It seems like the lowest (white) edition seems perfectly adequate as far as features and quality. I just want to make sure I can remotely place be mic for engine/exhaust/voice...

Or are there details I'm missing that would benefit me that I'm missing? (I don't care about the remote).

or have you found a camera other than the gopro that you like even more?

thanks for any input!

Matt

i use a silver and the foot cam is a white. shot in 720p 11mp wide with spot setting on. dont bother to shoot in 1080p nor load to 1080p because its not viewable on the phone and the battery drains much faster. external mic with wind sock suction cupped by license plate. seems fine. i think whichever version you decide, an external mic just makes the visor that much better. i hate watching other guys' videos and its just wind and rattling. takes the enjoyment and thrill out of it.

Had the original and comparatively it was near useless to the Silver Edition I currently have, huge improvement, you'll love it. In terms of functionality, the White works perfectly fine, just a little better video/picture with the higher end cameras.

the external mic is a really big reason I want to upgrade ... mind sharing which you use & how you have found it to work best?

looks like a blast out there!! worst part of that first spin is the layer of dust that I'm sure covered everything inside your car... I went sideways through some long grass once so I know all about that lol.

thanks for the input!

yeah -- I need to look into that but kind of wanted the camera before my Skip Barber HPD school! I'm getting to the point where I don't need the latest stuff, just something adequate with the must have features (which is an ever shrinking list as I approach 30yo .. haha)

thanks!

thanks for the input... I'm not looking for all the bells... just good audio/video... I don't mind getting out and pressing a button, and I won't be playing my videos on a jumbotron... mostly for my own amusement on laptops and such.

good to know i can't go wrong just gotta pick one now!

heres what i use. since i made the $5 headrest mount with pvc piping, i had a suction cup mount left over. i put it next to the license plate.

i bought a sony ECM ds70 external stereo mic and an extension wire tonconnect to the mic and the USB adapter for the gopro.

the base of the mic is perfectly shaped to put against a groove from the suction cup mount which i then just wrapped with a hair tie. just play with it and itll work. that cover or windsock i just made from a puppy doll toy (its the tail of a fox toy lol). they sell windsocks for $25 but since i needed it immediately i just bought and made this for $5.

takes some creativity but put the pieces together and it works perfectly. best part is my car has a brown and white furball rabbit tail on the end and everyone goes wtf is that?

hope this helps.
