Dealer won't swap wheels, opinions?

I ordered a 428i w/ the 441M wheels in Ferric Grey, but it turns out I like the 441M in silver better. I asked the dealer (McKenna) to swap the wheels out for the silver version, but they refused. They have 4 cars on their lot that have the wheels I want, but it's still a no-go.

The dealer said each wheel and tire has a serial code and because of that, they can't be switched. They would be liable if something went wrong with the wheels/tires and they weren't the wheels that were supposed to be on the car.

Do you guys think I should push for getting the wheels I want, or just take what's on the car?

That's a complete and total load of BS. If the wheels and tires are of like kind all they have to do is put an addendum window sticker on the donor car. There is no liability at all.

If it's really important to you tell them they can keep the car and you will take your business elsewhere.

The wheels and tires are identical, except for the color. Both 441M style wheels, one is silver, the other is grey.

I wouldn't believe that story, they could do it if they wanted to. I'd go aftermarket wheels anyways so it wouldn't make that big of a difference to me.

There is ZERO reason for them to refuse the swap.

I just got off the phone with them again, they said (again) they would be liable if anything happened to either my car or the donor car. From Calvin Lau, manager at McKenna BMW.

I believe everyone is missing the point. OP ordered the rims and changed his/her mind after the car was built.

That being said, I have had other dealers (non-BMW) state that they cannot swap rims from a car on their lot.

What makes you feel entitled to the set of wheels you want off of another car because you changed your mind?

BMW changed the wheel color for 2015 unbeknownst to the vast majority of custom order buyers.

The dealer can swap the wheels with no consequences at all. They are choosing to be stupid and obstinate.

Buy a set here on the forum or off of eBay.

The dealership isn't the only place to get different wheels.

Let it go, move on.

Because 441M wheels in Ferric Grey are a new option and real world pictures of the wheels were non-existent when I ordered the car, so I wasn't sure what they'd look like. Turns out I don't like how they look, and I don't think I should be forced to purchase a $50k car I'm not completely happy with.

This is my 10th BMW in the past 14 years, and I think getting a car I'm 100% satisfied with isn't an unreasonable request.

Put them up for sale. If it's a square setup, people may buy them for winter wheels to match the OE look.

However I'm waiting for the delivery of my car before I buy my winter wheels.

You got it. Sounds like you'd make a good dealership patsy.

I found a bad curb rash on one of my wheels during delivery, the dealer swapped it out with one on the lot no problem.

Your dealer is blowing smoke.

Dealer is absolutely correct. There is no reason they should swap your wheels with another car except to retain you as a return buyer.

Are you paying for the labor to swap wheels? Are you going to pay if something went wrong during the swap? Say a scratch on a wheel?

Sorry, I am looking at it from dealers point of view.

He's going to have a hard time selling a car with your wheels on them, because every customer is going to want the newest/latest and greatest. Hence his reluctance.

You always have the option to tell him to phuck off and take your biz elsewhere. At that point you put the ball in his court in terms of how important your biz is to him and whether it's worth taking on the risk of making his next car (with your wheels) on the lot harder to move.

On the flip side you have to evaluate how much you want the ferric wheels vis-a-vis the PITA of going through the whole ordering/negotiating process.

It all boils down to a match up of wills. Yours vs. Calvin.

The dealer swapped it out because BMW is going to reimburse the franchise for the cost of the replacement wheel.

Apples vs oranges.

It seems you've misread the original post. The OP's car has the "latest and greatest". By your logic swapping his wheels to a 2014 model should make that car easier to sell.
