From boat to truck?

My M3 was unloaded in Halifax today. How long does it normally take for it to be loaded on to the truck that will take it to Toronto?

It took mine about 4-5 days to get released from Halifax port.
Some cars going to Toronto have gone by train and by truck. If your lucky to get on a truck it will be much quicker. I believe the train is about a week to get to Toronto.

Yes, nag your dealer to get you on a truck.

Do not let your dealer send the car by rail! My M4 sat in Halifax for a month and a half! ALL SUMMER for a SUMMER CAR! Until they finally put it on a truck... BMW Canada has a huge delivery issue in Canada!!

I don't think the delivery issue is just in Canada. At each transition (BMW to boat, boat to rail, rail to truck) there are potential wait time. My sales rep told me they had to inspect, etc. Agreed, but maybe 1-2 days ... not weeks.

My car was stuck in Germany for 4 weeks before it got put on a boat. Then another 4 days to get from boat to rails. Finally, another week before getting onto a truck which needed to go about 1/2 hour from the auto depot to the dealership. So, overall, my car took 8 weeks to be delivered of which 5.5 weeks are wait time.

It's in the dealers best interest to get this to the customer pronto. There's a clause in the sales agreement saying that if not delivered within 90 days, the customer can walk away.
I'm getting close to that 90 day period--and am tempted to pull the trigger on it.

It is, that is why the shipping delay is not the dealers fault, its BMW main company's problem. As for the 90 days clause, I believe that is 90 days from the agreed delivery date, not the sales date... so they will usually push that date out a bit to give themselves a buffer.

I agree. CN logistics is absolutely terrible in Canada. My vehicle sat in Halifax for almost two weeks before being put on a rail car. After four days on rail, it sat for another 10 days at the Macmillan rail yard in Vaughn (less than two hours from Waterloo) before I bitched enough for them to move it by truck.

It's interesting to consider that it took LONGER for it to move it half-way across Canada than for BMW to build the vehicle and ship it across the Atlantic.

You may have to be careful with that. When I was getting frustrated with the the car's delivery I looked into this since it's not exactly clear from what point the clock starts ticking. If I remember correctly, there's also a 30 day count down too (at least in Ontario).

Frankly, I am absolutely amazed that BMW Canada allows such a situation to fester and piss off potential customers.

After 90 days from the date that you signed the agreement to buy or lease, the dealer has to advise you in writing what the new delivery date is and the reason for the delay. If you both can't come to a mutually agreed upon date after they advise you, the you can cancel without penalty. That's what and how I read it in my contract.
