Yes sir- for the N55 of course. For N54 you gotta tap into the vacuum line. I've gone back-and-forth with debating selling the gauge... Still on the fence

So no one can tell me what a typical IAT should be fully warmed up in a stock airbox on a BMW forum?

C'mon on guys....

worst case .. if you currently have the bms n55 intake .. it's extremely easy to take off and throw the stock air box back on.. and plus your numbers might be slightly different than someone else.. I say go for it yourself!! I could do it for you but too lazy lol.. btw awesome p3 gauge did you install it yourself?

Ha ha that's my problem too... I'm too lazy to swap them back

Actually no I didn't- Prestige BMW in Ramsey did it believe it or not- they're my "go to" guys for any engine related stuff since I did all my Dinan with them.

Agreed.

Well, the thing is, it doesn't even have to be a P3 gauge- maybe my title is misleading to people.

I just want to know what the IAT temperature is for a stock airbox as a baseline I suppose.

You would have to find someone in the exact same climate, same mods and same exact fuel to be able to compare. People can tell you their IAT, but it will be useless.

You know what I never thought about that- you have a point sir!

Well here's a question for everyone then:

Hypothetically, given the exact same environment and climate, would the temperature be lower for a stock airbox or a "cold air intake" like the BMS intake?

Higher temps with the bms since it pulls air from the engine bay and not the grill. Bms will suck more air but it's warmer

And to be considered a "cold air Intake" it would need to pull air from outside of the engine bay. Stock is technically more if a cold air intake than the bms

Ah makes sense. So moral of the story, when it comes to air intakes- leave it stock.

No. Get the intake but match it with a fmic and down pipes. Fmic will have the biggest effect on iat's

Well I have the upgraded FMIC covered, but I refuse to get downpipes so I guess I'm in the best spot I could possibly be. Thank you all!

If you let it sit and idle the IATS will climb. My car is a n54 but with the stock box and a mr5 style box I see 10-15 degrees about outside temp. When it idles it rises but I don't recall it ever being about 115ish

Sitting in traffic, or idling with the BMS intake on a hot day results in 135+ degrees in a short amount of time!

And that's with an upgraded intercooler and DP....

However, running down the highway or under full throttle, I'm only seeing a +15 degree temp difference that's pretty slow to climb.
