I though when I read the title that it was a comparison in wheel designs which I would have given the win to the RS4, hands down.

I have to get a mate to buy it for me and mail it - I really miss "Wheels", it's heaps better than C&D and R&T. US mags are pretty 'straight' and lack the sly humour of Oz and UK mags ("Car").

The sucky thing is that you forgot to mention..is the RS was quicker to 100klm, so any drag unless they drive like shit will be lost... that pisses me off. Also the RS4 1/4 mile is 12.8 and m3 13.2...which is gay as well. The M3 was 1 sec faster around a dry track, the RS was 5 secs faster on a wet one 1 all there. anyway at the end of the article they gave both cars 4.5 out of 5. and said who ever drives these cars are very lucky indeed..the coolness of the M and the rarity of the RS...

If I lived back in Canada again - or Tassie - I suspect the RS4 is the choice as a more tractable hi-po daily driver. But for much of Oz and Sth USA, the M3 seems more fun ("involving") and precise in its chuckability, given warmer climes and drier roads.
