OEM Tire Pressure

What is the proper tire pressure for the summer tires that come on the M235i? My reading of the owner's manual says 32 PSI front and 38 PSI back ("cold") for speeds over 100 miles per hour. However, I inflated the tires to this pressure, let the car sit for a few days, and it was back to 29/35 when I got back in.

While driving today (60 miles, cruising at about 100 mph), though, the tire pressure monitor said about 32F/38-39R.

Should be written right on the car.

Obviously you cannot compare warm while driving temperatures to cold.

Have you tried measuring with a gauge rather than tpms?

Last time it was in they set my front to 32 and rear to 38 which was right in the service notes.

Yea, the machine I was using is one where you set the desired PSI and let it run. I guess the tires must have still be "hot" because it hit 32/38 (verified with hand gauge but was 29/35 cold.

Will add more air tomorrow.

I've always wondered why the disparity between F and R tire pressures. Assuming all other things equal, wouldn't you want the F and R pressures to be the same, say 35/35?

Why go -3 in front and +3 in the rear? From what I've read on the internet (heh), this would tend to promote understeer. Is this a safety thing from BMW?

Also, wouldn't higher front pressures increase turn in response?

I think the Front and Rear tires are different. Well, I know they are. Owner's manual is down in the car though so I can't give you the specifics.
