Fault Code 2EA1H/11937

Took the E90 to my independent mechanic for a door lock actuator install, oil level sensor replacement and an oil change yesterday. This morning I get the red Service light followed by the red triangle and exclamation mark. After work I stop back by the mechanics to inquire and his scan tool shows fault code 2EA1H/11937, but it has no description and neither of us can find out what it is related to. After resetting the error and restarting the car the error returns.

Does anyone here have any knowledge of this code and or what it means?

Thanks!

I just went through my Bentley manual yesterday looking for a fault code on my car and I don't remember seeing a 5-digit BMW code like that one. I have replaced the oil level sensor however. Did the mechanic reinstall the ground plate and grounding wire?

Does the CBS give you an oil level? I'll try and remember to check the Bentley for that specific code tomorrow.

You don't need to code the sensor.

Yeah, I see no mention of needing to code the sensor in the DIYs that I have found, but the fault persists. Whereas in a couple other threads, such as the one linked above, dealerships have supposedly said that it does need it...

So, I am taking it back in on Friday after work and we will see what he can do.

I replaced my sensor because I thought it was defective after 220,000 miles. It turned out the sensor was fine and BMW programs the oil life monitor system to stop working after 186,000 miles. I took my car to the dealer within a week of replacement of the sensor and delved into the whole obsolesce of the oil life monitor issue. I had detailed discussions with the lead tech at the dealer. He did not mention that the sensor had to be coded in. I told the dealer I replaced the sensor. Now, most sensor replacement procedures call for clearing fault codes before installing the new sensor and starting the car. Maybe this is what Meeni is talking about. I have the Bentley repair manual, it does not mention the need to code the new sensor. I think you said your car did not have a fault code before you replaced the original sensor.

I had no fault codes but the sensor would trip intermittently telling me I had min oil level, then right back to normal on next refresh. The oil level currently reads min and it says "inactive" above that.

Could your replacement sensor be a dud?

I have no more information than what I found digging the internet. The fault code is the same, and it also discuss a problem with that sensor, so that seems relevant, but that's all I know about it.

It could be the 335i uses a different sensor and comm protocol than the N52 (my car). The link you posted was for a 335i; my experience is with the N52. Maybe we are both correct. The sensor is pretty simple, just a concentric capacitance tube, I can't see how it needs to be coded in order to make it communicate with the ECU, but you never know. All I do know is when I changed mine, it communicated fine and didn't change the (programmed) behavior of the CBS issue I was trying to solve and it has been reporting oil level consistently since I installed it a year ago.

Ok, for anyone interested in the end result of all this. My indy mechanic couldn't figure it out so into the dealership I went. They couldn't get the sensor to talk to the car either so they removed and replaced the sensor and it worked. Their diagnosis was that it wasn't plugged in enough.... sigh.
