Recommendation needed for JB4 or JB Stage1

I am trying to make a final decision on which level tune to get. I have n55 with PPK but want a bit more. Only intended future mods are intake and exhaust, no DP or Meth or even E85. I like the JB4 gauge features but will I see much different performance only using Map 2 or Map 5 which all I believe I could use? Is it worth the extra $250 if I am not going for the extra mods?

I'd say it's worth it, just in case.

Map 2 is for an upgraded downpipe. You would want to use either Map 1 or 5.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you WILL get JB4 since that IS the correct choice. I would suggest putting your research time & effort into other tuning questions. If you rationalize stage 1 suffices now (which you shouldn't), what about the day after you drive it and wonder what stage 2 feels like.

You will start with Map 1 and could stay on that indefinitely. Map 2 suggested for those with a "high flow exhaust" and 93+ octane. Used to state Downpipes & 93+ octane. Map 5 is really designed for those running higher octane and supporting bolt ons; you could run it stock but in that case shouldn't expect drastic differences from Map 1.

I'm sure you'll get many differing opinions from the forums. But all should agree that you should research the N54 tech forum. Good luck.

Unless you can run map 2, I don't know how much more power you will get out of the jb4, but overall it's awesome. Lots of options ranging from gauge sweep, gauge hijacking, can flap (exhaust flap on/off toggle), custom tuning, map 5 auto tuning, etc etc. I see many jb4's for sale on the forum, and you can probably pick one up for 250-300. That's the route I went and recommend you go as well. Procede v5 is awesome too, from my research. It just came down to what was for sale and at what price.

Lots of info on the forum though! Read up! Good luck!!

Check with BMS, to see how the JB4 interacts with the PPK 1st

When I asked, I got a vague answer and went (recently) with the Cobb AP instead.

Stage 1 should be about the same jump as from stock to PPK. If you have 93 oct then you can run stage 2 and get a very nice bump in power. I would get the full JB4 because you plans may change down the road, you never know.

Yes the Jb4 is worth the extra money.
Stage 1 will give you a nice boost increase.
The Jb4 is a complete tune. Better delivery, more power, more safety and more features

Get the JB4. It will give you substantially more power over the PPK.

about half a year ago I was in your spot... i had a ppk n55 with the bmw performance exhaust. I gave in to a jb4 than fmic than charge pipe and soon enough a nice downpipe.. At least I didn't wanna throw in that many mods but as you feel more and more power it becomes addicting... you'll see. but def grab a jb4 stg 2 worth every penny used or new!! even map 1 feels like a nice bump in power.. best thing is with on the fly map switching you could throw it in map 0 when you wanna behave (take gf/wife out) lol
