SSTT on a 335xi sedan?
What are the number people are getting with the SSTT chip installed on a xi? I have read the treads so that's why I'm asking before I buy one. I'm planning on getting a chip, and the SSTT is the only one I know that I can take off easily. Anybody know of any other chip, less than $1500, that can be easily removed like the SSTT? Also where is the cheapest place to buy a SSTT chip?
My other question was on the speed limiter. Since I have the xi, I have the speed limiter at 130mph. Can this be removed without installing hte Dinan or Procede chip? What are the stock number you get with a stock 335xi? What are the numbers you get with the SSTT on a 335xi? Thanks |

SSTT is the only one with ease of install. Everything else requires you to connect to the ECU box.
Too bad you have an xi. Installing a SSTT in the xi is a beeyaatch. I recommend you put the car on jackstands and remove the driver side wheel before you do the install. Will make the install go more smoothly. |

Do, or do not. There is no 'try'.

Nah, don't listen to this guy....my buddy's car and mine is an Xi. We put it on his car in about 10 minutes after fingering the best way to get the clip unhooked in that tight space. He used a dime to slip into the clip and pop it loose. No need for jack stands. It will not raised the speed limiter. TurboFan may post his 2 cents at some point since it is on his car.

I have heard very LOW numbers, but the good thing I did hear was one guy on here ran a 12.9 in the quarter mile with JUST the SSTT, thats impressive, i guess the traction makes up for the drive train loss.......... |

I ran a 12.9 in my 335xi sedan with automatic, SSTT and all season tires on my car. The car is VERY consistant run after run. Three runs five minutes apart 12.930, 12.992, 12.974... and that was with playing with leaving it in full auto, short shifting and launching from 2,000-2,500 rpms. The car has been solid.. Never a hiccup or anything. |

Most people who buy the Turbo Tuner find themselves extremely satisfied with the power and performance improvement. Also as far as numbers go, The most recent dyno chart That was done in Arizona shows that the Turbo Tuner mad e better than 51WHP.
If you look at this chart, the car made 260WHP on this type of dyno, then they added a Supersprint Cat Back which made 10WHP and then they added the TT and made an additional 51WHP. Not Bad Then they added the FMIC and picked up another 10WHP. Take a look at the torque curve as well very impressive for the TT a gain of more than 60 ft. lbs. To the OP - you'll really start to love it when idiots post opinions about the xi system. It's always good for some gut-busting laughs.
Anyone that has driven both cars will tell you that the i and the xi are SOOOO close you can hardly tell a difference. The added traction on the xi is really helpful when you start adding power. Bone stock, I've taken down a 335i on the track, and I was carrying an extra 150 lbs, at least. Add the SSTT, and the xi is maniacal. Most people that say the xi is slower have no idea how to drive it. You can't drive an AWD car the same as a RWD car. It requires a different approach and a different style.

So you have the SSTT installed? How do you like it, and what are the differences you see? I'm with you with the i and the xi being so close together. Drove both of them, and couldn't tell any difference. Just a little harsher ride on the i with sport package.

Will I notice more power with performance tires, or will I notice it by just leaving my 17" on with all seasons?
Would I have to install an oil cooler as well? As you all know that the 17" xi, don't come with an oil cooler or the 155mph. Turbo, what are you getting now with the SSTT on your MPG? What is the difference? |

I just reach in blindly with one hand and unhook the sensor, stick the tt in that hand, reach back in with it and plug it into the t-map side, then plug the remaining wire into the tt. I use my fingernail... no tools at all |

been running it for about 2 mos now. Love it! May sell it when the Helix is available, as I'm looking to amake this a project car for different ideas. As for xi vs. i, well that's a whole can of worms. Difference between stock and SSTT? Well my gas mileage sucks casue I keep crusing in 4th gear! The car is a monster on the highway in 3rd and 4th gear, I can't imagine what the more agressive tunes would be.

The harness i's on the port side of the block at the back of the engine bay (drivers side). Reach in with your right hand, slip a dime under the clip, pull the connector apart, slide in the SSTT, plug it into the car harness and fire that mother up!

The beauty of SSTT is you can easily re-sell it.

I recently installed a Turbo Tuner on my 2008 335xi sedan with sport package and AT, everything else completely stock. The car has about 500 miles on it since SSTT installed.
Here are the numbers I recorded stock versus with SSTT. These are from an Escort G-timer, on 91 octane, in DS mode, DTC fully on, launch at 2200 rpm. The "track" is a straight section of highway with an increase in elevation of about 20 feet start to finish based on GPS data. Approx 1000 ft above sea level. Humidity around 30%. Stock run (67 degrees, 1/4 tank): 60 ft = 1.87 1000 ft = 11.27 1/8 mi = 8.65 1/4 mi = 13.53 @ 101.3 0-30 = 1.55 0-60 = 4.93 0-100 = 12.98 SSTT run (39 degrees, 7/8 tank): 60 ft = 1.82 1000 ft = 10.85 1/8 mi = 8.33 1/4 mi = 13.00 @ 104.8 0-30 = 1.37 0-60 = 4.40 0-100 = 11.55 I know these are not drag strip numbers, but good for comparison. Definitely significant gains in performance for the money and ease of install/removal. No problems whatsoever so far. I'm very happy with it. |
