OEM 17" Space Saver Spare Tire (Part# 36110445045)

I took the plunge and bought the 17" space saver spare tire kit from European BMW, and tried it on over the weekend.

I can confirm that the spare tire (17x3.5 ET8 with 125/80R17 tire) from European BMW fits on a US-spec M235i with no clearance issues. Being an OEM solution, this does not require a hub centric ring.

Part #36110445045 (wheel+tire only) or 36112159860 (Kit)

Good info & pics.
Do you use an alignment pin to match up the lugs to make installation easy and to not scratch caliper ?

No, I did not have one on hand, but it was not that difficult to align the lugs. I lifted up the car just enough to slide the wheels in and out.

$480 + shipping from ECS tuning. They sell it as a E82/E9x kit. Comes with a jack/ratchet, wheel choke, carrying case with tie-down straps, lug wrench, and a pair of gloves.

Good stuff & nice of you to share!

I'm guessing that you are ok with how things fit in the trunk & that somewhere there is a spec on maximum mph and distance?

Thanks. It doesn't take up too much space in the trunk. I usually keep the trunk empty most of the time anyway. I will snap a few pics and share how it looks like in the trunk when I get a chance. I think I can still fit a golf bag or two on top of the spare.

As for the 50 mph max speed, honestly I don't really care. This will be my 2nd or 3rd backup plan. If I get a flat, I would just call and wait for Roadside Assistance or AAA unless there is a reason to get out of the area ASAP. There is no max distance with this spare tire.

Yes, Please post a photo of the spare in the trunk,
Would love to see how it fits.

We are currently looking for a new car and are finding it difficult to find any brand of car with a spare wheel provided (including the space saver).

Wonder why BMW does not offer it as an option

I'm pretty sure it's available here. Best to check with your spare part department.

I checked at Parramatta the other day and they had it in their system, but when they tried to order it they were not able to ... for some reason.

I might try a different dealer and see what they have.

Does anyone know the availability in Australia ?

I ordered one of these space saver wheel kits from ECS tuning. $700.00 landed to my door within 6 days to Sydney, Australia.

Brilliant idea and service.
Thanks 300f22

Now all I need is the 2 Series to go with it.

Thank you for sharing this info 300f22. This looks like the solution I've been looking for!

As its over a year since you posted this article I wondered if you could confirm that this is still the right fit & fix for your car? On realoem.com the M235i & M135i aren't on the list of vehicles that it's compatible with, and understandably the BMW parts department won't put their necks on the line and say it will fit.
Just want to double check before I go ahead. Cheers, Mark

Mark, did you ever determine if the wheel in space saver spare kit 36112159860 is compatible with F20 M135i?

Just purchased car. Love it, except no spare or run flats.

Since this tread began, have you had need to use in real life rather than photos taken in garage. How did it work out, any surprises?

The ECS site says this will NOT work on my M235i conv.

Did the ECS site say that it would, or would not, work on your car. If NOT, and you took plunge anyway. any regrets?

I purchased the spare kit solely based on my research on realoem.com. When I bought mine, ECS listed it as a E82/E9x kit, and F2x was not listed as a compatible model.

Fortunately, I have not had a chance to use the spare tire in real life, but I have no regrets at all as I bought it for peace of mind. Spending $500+ on this kit beats going through 3 sets of runflats on my previous car (E92) in 5 years of ownership mostly due to irreparable punctures.

Look up for a spare kit on realoem.com for the European version of your car. If the kit I bought is listed there, it should work for your car.

Hope this helps.
