Review: Dinan 335i ECU Flash
Installation:
The installation took just under two hours since this was the dealers first 335i flash so they took the extra time to do a road test and a post diagnostics to see if any codes were thrown…no problems. The cost was 2000.00 + 1 hour labor. They did reset adaptation on the transmission and other devices. The software does take several miles to run at its full potential just like the PROcede and they should tell you just like the Dinan rep told me at the dealership. Questions: I asked a few questions you all wanted know: 1. If a BMW dealer reloads software, due to warranty reasons, to a new revision then the Diana flash will be reinstalled at no charge. There is no limit to the install but it is only covered over the four year warranty. After the warranty period the cost is 1 hour labor. If you have the BMW software load at another dealer then no problem it is still free as long as you show the paper work. 2. The software is guaranteed to be upwards compatible and new revision of the Diana are made available quickly when issue due occur. In short, they test new version of BMW software for compatibility. 3. You bought software and it is locked to you vehicle. You are entitled to equivalent upgrade at your expense (1 hour labor) or when there is a know issue much the same way as you get BMW upgrades so it free if there problem and you pay because you just want it. 4. The software can be transferred if the vehicle is written off but not when you sell it. 5. Warranty: It should be transparent to the end user. BMW determine liability apparently and charges Dinan back when they are liable. The warranty does cover consequential damage so this is broad scope. This is the way it going to work for me. Setup: E92 335i: Quaife LSD, H&R sway bars, Koni FSD and Advan sport tires 265/30x19 & 235/35x19. DTC button pushed once. Road test: The throttle response has been changed significantly from the stock configuration. There is a considerable amount of power made starting at 1/3 to ½ throttle position unlike the stock setup. It hard to describe but it just feel a lot better than stock and just responds instantly when your off on the throttle rapidly. I guess it feels like a normally aspirated car for response now (but with more power) when I think about it. The power from 1000 to 2500 RPM is more than stock but it is a lot smoother and the latency feel of turbo lag is now non existent. From 3000 RPM the power start hitting hard (push in the seat) but very linear and smooth all the way 4300 then the power starts rushing fairly hard as the RPM head towards read line which happens extremely fast. The car is deceptively quick and feels smooth but with a good rush that keep getting stronger all the way to redline. I expect the car might fall off around 6000 RPM but my by dyno butt say it pulling strong to redline. Above 5000 RPM the car hits redline very quickly, with anything more than half throttle, so it is difficult to tell if the power is falling off. From 5000 RPM to redline, the car feels completely different than a stock car. Did I mention what it felt like at 4300 RPM…. pulls very strong and smooth…. sticks in your mind how rapid thing happen after hitting this RPM. I had lot fun in the rain today. I now realize that more power means a lot more yaw with DTC pushed once! The overall power delivery is really good and for lack of better word just fun. By the end the day I had complete control of my drift especially down low in the power band which can be hard to modulate at times with the stock setup. The last few straight line runs got easier to modulate were I barley had traction control cutting in. It is fairly evident that if you punch it blindly without modulating throttle then you loss traction at 3000 RPM and at 4500 RPM followed by a big rush of forward motion. The above is just my first impression but so far and I am very happy about trading the PROcede for the Dinan Flash. No errors code just fun the way it should be. More later. So is it close to your PROCede V1
So do tell: Is the Dinan close to V1 or not? Or was your V1 just sitting your desk too.

The cost is 2000 CAN for the software. No, I got it done by a local dealer in Richmond. They Dinan dealers have the code. Orb |

that is exactly what i thought i had more time today and the throttle response is just so smooth and responsive...so much more over stock....i am just so impressed with it...people can talk numbers all they want but the overall quality is just phenominal!!!! i love how smooth and instant the throttle is now i just can't get enough. i need an lsd though i broke traction going 85mph today!!!!!definitely in love with the tune...i noticed through traffic again it was much improved over stock...it wasn't nearly as jerky as in stock form no matter what mode(manual,DS,D)they were all much improved. being in Chicago with all the traffic that is a very very good thing!!! Glad to here you love it Orb i love mine too!!!! |

Wow. Another question .... remember when you had it it put in and then you were driving it and going fast and stuff???? .... anyway that was pretty awesome. Sorry, I watched a Chris Farley special recently.
Seriously, I'm pretty much sold on this but thought I'd wait until spring because I got all the power I can use here on the frozen plains. But now I am wondering if the warranty tracks what's left on you BMW warranty, or do you get a fresh set of downs so to speak? If the former, I might get a better value out it installing it ASAP as I typically run out of years way before I run out of miles on my car warranties. If this is the case (it not outliving the BMW warranty), this would be the difference between a 3 year warranty vs. a 3.5 year warranty if I wait until spring. |
