Would you respray your bonnet chips for £300?

Hi all-I have a few chips on my e93 bonnet, I took it to an approved BMW bodyshop I have used before who quoted me £300 -I am in two minds -do I leave it now until the spring then get it done or leave it and just touch them up?-any thought please.(roughly 15 chips)

Seems like overkill but it would depend on what a chip-specialist would charge. Decently repaired chips won't hurt the resale value much but repainted panels could scare buyers.

Depends how OCD you are I think.
Two things spring to mind for me

1)Thats a lot of money to fix a few stone chips!
2)I wouldn't bother with winter not far off, at least wait until spring

I have the same dilemma, so many stone chips from the previous owner

As mentioned above, I've had resale values affected on previous cars by having panels resprayed - which is kind of odd, as you'd think a clean resprayed panel would be rated higher than a nasty one full of stone chips or damage

Used it before and works well very easy to do.
Certainly wouldn't bother with a spray before winter if it bothers you that much do it in spring. For me there's no point it will just happen again I'd personally wait if you ever need anything else sprayed I'd maybe get it done then.

Thanks all -I hear what you are saying-just worried about the respray paint thickness if I got it sprayed, chips done by previous owner.

You worry too much!
It's a car, it's going to get the odd mark here or there

Leave it alone. As soon as you get it sprayed, people will think it could of had a front end. The chips keep the car honest. It's a fact, cars will get chipped!

I found the Chipex kit fine for lots of small chips low down on the bumper out of eye level.

Bigger chips on the bonnet weren't so great though.

I bought the large kit and found that after using about 5-10% of the paint, I had run out of the blending solution.

There is some good chip repair guides on Detailing World. They make it look easier than it is though.

I'm looking to get my front repainted soon. My bumper needs it most and I've quite a few chips too.

My car is 6 years old now, so it isn't unusual to have chips.

I'm sure any buyer that is concerned enough about paint thickness will also have the ability to see all the panels are original with the paint to cover stone chips and not a crash.

It would depend how bad the chips are and what colour the car is before I decided to get the car painted.

A few of the colours are very hard to match and the potential paint job might irritate me more than a few stone chips.

Silvers are notoriously difficult for colour matching.

Here are the methods I use...

Providing the respray is carried out to a high standard and by a reputable body shop (you have the receipt to prove this) and the general condition of the car is mint, then I can't see the resale value being affected negatively.

Are you sure you have been quoted for a full re-spray of the bonnet and not just a touch up job? £300 for a full bonnet re-spray seems very low for an approved BMW body shop. They will need to feather it in with the wings and spoiler to get the colours matched up. £600 + would sound more like it.

£300 sounds more like an independent, but if they are good they will want more.

I insisted that BMW re-sprayed my bonnet and spoiler before I would take if off their hands. 40K miles and it was peppered with stone chips. Previous owner must have liked tailgating on the mway or driving on freshly gritted roads.

Personally I would get it done. Chipex is not bad, but anything on the bonnet is generally highly noticeable.
