Dent on my E90 roof!

I came out to my car this morning to find some c**t has put a massive dent on my roof! This is my first car and only got it a few weeks ago!
Does anyone know a DIY way of doing this?
Maybe with a sucker or something? Or taking the inside roof lining off and pushing it out?
Please help

It depends where the roof reinforcement is in relation to the dent as to how easy it will be to remove. Some paintless dent repairers won't touch it because you'd have to drop the roof lining and remove the pillar covers housing the airbags. I'd rather drop the lining myself to save someone who hasn't the time bodging it. Then drop it off to your local dent man.

That doesn't look too bad.
A dent puller kit would fix that easily....but takes some finesse to do properly.
GL with the fix.

Find who done it, remove head lining, cover interior in plastic sheet to avoid blood stains. Use his head to smash the dent out from the inside.

Then get a bodyshop to finish the rest

on a serious note, get in touch with a local smart repair company. Some are pretty good and know what they are doing. I would try fixing yourself unless you have experience with this kind of thing as you can end up with lots of creases and it can look even worse.
Good luck!

As far as dents go, that's a pretty nice dent.

Easy fix for a pro, seen much worse fixed for ~£100

Roof liner if flexible.
Try to push it from underneath and it may go back to normal position with some residual signs.

Thanks all you lot for your replies.
I'll have a look on YouTube to see how it's done, and find out how to take the roof lining down. If it looks too much for me then I'll take it to a specialist.

This is all I need! Was saving up to put my baby on a new set of wheels.

Next door's window cleaner dropped his 'carp' pole on my car's roof last year and put a golf ball sized dent in it. It turned out to be a real pain to get repaired as the dent removal lads wouldn't touch it due to the roof trim and airbags and one specialist wanted over £1100!
In the end a local body shop did it for about £700. They said they were going to glue a stud to the roof and pull it out before final filling, refinishing and paint, etc.

Luckily it was paid for by the window cleaner's liability insurance but they made a right meal of inspecting, agreeing the quotes and instructing the repairer. They forced me to get several quotes which took some time for which I got no compensation either. It was as if it was my claim and my fault. When they inspected the car they even checked the tax disc and tyre tread depth! WTF?

I feel for you trying to get it sorted, it took me over 6 months to get it repaired.

Hi

I would say its a doable dent, providing access is good. Would not attempt a DIY, your only gonna probably make it worse etc. Yes there's airbags on the pillar but as long as your careful its not a problem. I'm sure you can find a good pdr guy in your area who can do it for you.

£1100 or £700 for golf ball dent is too much. This dent will come out I think.

Sorry to here of idiots damaging it.

This sort of thing is maddening...wouldn't you just like to see who it was who actually did it? Probably some jealous smart alec i'm afraid

Personally I would get the specialists in to remove it, budget around £150 + vat. I can see the temptation to have a go yourself - but removing trim near airbags could open pandoras box of problems.

Ah well good luck

That will PDR out no problem. If you were in Herts I can recommend a top guy that knows BMW's inside out and does it for a good price too.

Scumbags.

That's a pretty big dent. Is it a footprint or something?

Get a PDR guy to do it. Start trying to press it out yourself and you light leave more creases and work to repair.

What D***heads. Hopefully by now your on the way to sorting it. I work in the body repair industry and I would say no PDR guy would touch that and if they could it would never be perfect. There's too much depth and area plus limited access for them. Definately bodyshop and roof re-spray

To be honest I've stopped looking into it ATM lol. Where I've spent all my money on the car, the next thing I wanted was a set of wheels, so I'm debating which to get first as I'm sure a respray etc would be quite pricey?

Hi there

Sorry to read this, I had the same thing a few years ago. It is gutting, I know. I contacted a couple of PDR dudes by email, no reply. In the end I took it to my local dealer and they replaced the entire roof on insurance. Top top job, it looks factory perfect, just as it should. Impossible to find the paint join. In fact they resprayed the boot lid too as they found footprints or dents in it (I hadn't noticed).

In my case the depression of the dent had caused the metal to crease just slightly along the line of the reinforcing beam - pulling out the dent itself PDR-style would never fix that 100%. Bottom line is the metal has been stretched and creased - the only way is to replace it.

When I showed it to the bodyshop guy at the dealer he was not phased - he says they get quite a few "walkovers" and I was very relieved when he said it was not a problem for them (I assumed the roof was integral and non-replaceable). It's routine for a decent bodyshop, but involved and relatively expensive. Hence the insurance!

Hope you get it fixed.
