BMW Performance Lip and Splitters on Mineral White F80

Thanks to Alekshop (http://www.alekshop.com) for the installation. The Carbon splitters are easy, you just stick them on and put in a few bolts. The lower lip part is a very involved install. There is cutting, drilling and a crapton of bolts and plastic rivets, but you end up with a very secure installation. The lip is actually two pieces, an internal plastic frame with the matte ABS cover that you can actually see. Hopefully, BMW will offer the outer piece as a cheap replacement for when it inevitably gets scuffed.

Be warned - if you do this, it hangs down LOW. The carbon splitters probably only extend a minimal amount since they follow the factory contours, but the lip part sticks out a lot and hangs down quite a bit. The bottom of my bumper, pre lip, was already a bit scratched, so I expect this lip to be a wear item.

I was NOT in love with the way it looked at first, but now that I can see the texture of the CF and the contrast of the matte lip, I really like it. Gives the visually heavy F80/F82 a bit of levity through negative light. Higher quality versions here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kitwet...7645998770317/

I'll probably do the spoiler and diffuser when they're released. And, I can't wait for a proper set of coilovers for this car!

Looks great, these pics drove home what I am doing to mine. Lip only no carbon, I love the look of carbon fiber but for some reason I think just the lip will do for me. Thanks for the pics!

Hopefully you know that doing this will leave a significant gap. BMW shipped a few early lips that could be installed without the splitters, but all of the newer lips are going to require the splitters or you will have a gap between the bumper and lip.

It's actually not so much drilling into the bumper cover, rather the undertray pieces and the rubber lip that sticks down from the bumper. They're not horribly expensive, so going back to stock will be possible.

Just keep in mind that it is a very involved install - took them 4 hours. I couldn't believe how many fasteners were included and you'll need a special plastic rivet gun. Probably hard to DIY.

this is because you have a euro lip being installed onto a US car. With euro bumpers it's a 10 minute job and needs no hacking. I suspect when the part is released in the US properly it will be designed for US bumpers.

as. understand it (happy to be wrong) but I don't think you can't install the lip without the carbon splitters (at least not without some type of modification/fabrication)

Incorrect, the bumper is exactly the same and wasn't cut into at all.

Lips are the same part number, all will require this. (In the instructions are a drilling and cutting template.)

Incorrect also. . You can bolt the lip up and secure it, but there will be a gap between the bumper and lip if you don't have the splitters.

happy to be corrected but it looks like you were conned then - took my dealer 10 minutes to do the install of the lip ?

Neil.

Is there any picture yet of the installed lip without splitter. I would like to see how big this gap really is. I am not totally convinced of the splitters, but at least I want to get the lip.

I hope it doesn't fall off. . Seriously, I watched the install, it is not a 10 min job, unless you mean just the carbon pieces (which are)

I'll take a look when I get home - could be they did pre-prep before I got there.

With regards to the lip without the splitter yes it can be made to fit but in the same way a Ferrari spoiler could be made to fit - I.e will look slightly rubbish!

That looks amazing. I wonder if i can buy all these parts b4 the car gets here and dealer throws them right on for me. And i also wonder of these parts along with exhaust can be residualized.

Near the end of the production run, the BMW Performance bits could be residualized on the e9x, but only a small part. It was really lame, like the Performance Exhaust was only like $800 of residual, so the equivalent of a 25% residual. I was all excited that they would be residualized at the regular lease rate and then found out it was way less.

It looks amazing!!! You wouldn't happen to have access to the installation instructions by any chance???

Still considering it when the M3 gets here but I am a bit worried it might be to low to the ground, then again I'd rather mess up the plastic lip than under the bumper.

Looks great! Didn't realize the lip was matte and not CF. I thought it was similar to the M4 concept's glossy cf front lip. I suppose it needed a center support which the concept's lip did not have.

Let me say that this looks absolutely amazing.

This will very likely be the first and only mod when I get my F80 M3 or F82 M4. Still undecided.

I wish somebody could upload a picture of an F80 M3 with the M Performance splitters, side skirts, and basically all other OEM M Performance parts.
