v2.02 : 3rd gear vs 4th gear max psi
Howdy!
I was lucky to receive my v2 harness this past Friday (early Christmas - yay!) - for those waiting on theirs, hang in there. I ordered mine Sept. 4th, and my order # ended in 812. I'm not certain if the order # has any bearing on ship date or not, but if you are waiting on yours you can compare my date and order # to your situation. The install went great and was a piece of cake. I grew up in a race car family, so to me spending time in the garage tinkering is therapy so this may not be the case for everyone, but I found it relaxing honestly. I was in the software biz for too many years - spending time in front of anything but a monitor seems to qualify as therapy these days though. heh The end results are simply sublime - buttery smooth power delivery, fantastic top end. As others have noted, there is a bit less immediate punch down low, but it's not all that missed (at this point) - simply noted. Zero issues at all thus far in 100 miles of testing and adapting. I've datalogged 4 runs and I am currently running the stock 90% torque table settings. Being Texas, I have access to "The Good Stuff" and run 93 at all times (alternating between Chevron and Shell every 4 tanks or so). Ambient temps have been rather low (for North Texas) this weekend - all four logged runs took place in 36 degree weather. My question is probably redundant, but I thought I'd ask anyhow and share my numbers for those in the same spot. As Shiv has pointed out, 4th gear boost is going to be slightly higher than 3rd gear. It is my understanding per his tuning tips that we should be seeing no higher than 14.5 at WOT at 5,500rpm. I assumed at first that this was for any given gear, but after re-reading his test procedures, he states to measure 3rd gear runs to 110mph give or take. So, this raised the question for me tonight - are we looking for no more than 14.5 psi in any gear at 5,500rpm or 3rd gear in specific? My measured boost in 3rd gear at 5,500rpm is as follows (2.02 running 90% across the board in the torque table - my car is an '07 M6) : Run 1 : 10.9 Run 2 : 11.8 Run 3 : 13.4 Run 4 : 12.8 My measured boost in 4th gear at 5,500 rpm is as follows : Run 1 : 13.4 Run 2 : 13.8 Run 3 : 14.3 Run 4 : 12.9 As a semi-related tangent, I recently sold my Lingenfelter Stage 3 Twin Turbo 427 C5 Z06, and while that machine was downright terrifying at times (I personally found it to be the best rush I've ever experienced, but I had MANY one time passengers who refused second trips), it was a ton of fun and I miss it dearly. That machine put down just over 700rwhp and close to 800rwtq and weighed about 400lbs less than my 335i. Boost without grip, as was the case with the 427TT all the time in anything but 4th gear, was fun but somewhat silly and absurd as well. Boost with grip is just plain fun, period. The boys at Vishnu have made me happy again - I've never fallen out of love with my 335i in a year of ownership, but I've fallen head over heels with her once again with their help. |

Nice "expert's report" and interesting question
I perfectly share your feelings about V2 (that was installed last saturday on my car).

I would watch 4th gear as well.....the main issue for testing is that running 4th gear all the way out will land you in jail or dead if you screw up. Just be careful. Knowing what car you just came from leads me to think you can handle the tuned 335 no problem, just watch out for the other idiots out there.
That being said, glad you are enjoying it!! Bump up the tq values slowly to 94% and have at it.

Cool - just read Shiv's post on 2.03 and gear specific boost control. Looks like this may be a moot point/question for now with 2.02.
