C&D fastest $30-40K cars
Looks like C&D has bust the gates wide open on the tuning aspects of our beloved 335i:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-bmw-335i.html "Which raises the point: If half a pound of extra boost can strip a few tenths, what might a couple pounds do? Although we know you’d never, ever compromise your warranty with an impossible-to-trace piggyback performance ECU, we understand the temptation to whup on M3s and return home to sleep on a bed of 20,000 stacked $1 bills." |

Either that or you can take a look in your passenger wheel well.

I love how they (and I guess the competitor car manufacturers) think that BMW is sending the car magazines "ringers" that have .5 psi more boost.
Saying that after they have gotten two BMWs to do 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and both times got low to mid 13's @ 106 mph, but suggesting owners cars aren't as fast. Come on!! Do they NOT look at what owners are doing at the tracks? Do they NOT know that those are common numbers for the stock 335i's? Give me a break, you'd think "journalists" would do a bit or research before making stupid comments like that. Those accusational and unfounded comments are what spread rumors and so forth. Search dragtimes Car and Driver. Go onto the car forums like THIS one and ASK what people are getting in their STOCK 335's at various tracks. |

For what it's worth, I have noticed some variance among cars. For example JonM's car made 14.0psi with the JB2HR, while mine made 14.5 with the JB2HR. These .5psi variances would explain why some cars seem to be slightly faster than others when all stock.

But I know each car is different. At the original LA Dyno Day install of the PROcede's there was a 10-11 rwhp difference between the 335i's dynoed there. That wasn't the difference between the transmission either. There were 7 autos and the gap was 10 rwhp, and there was like 10 manuals and again like 10-11 rwhp difference among them too. But again, gas quality, break in, and engine tolerances of ALL cars will have that much variation one 300+ hp cars I'm sure. On v2.0.2 on 92 Octane and 92% settings, Sharewin said he was only seeing 13.1 psi boost for my car. Others see 14 psi with those settings. Maybe my coupe is slow too, but the dyno numbers on the dynojet were good! But I was able to pull 1.5 CL on JonM when we were both on v1.47 too (he had 175+ lbs more weight in his car, but also had RD Sport Catback exhaust and was lowered for better aerodynamics. So who knows, but the point is each car varies. |

I needed something to laugh about after reading the rpa thread about how awful BMW is and what a bunch of fanbois we all are.

I just noticed a Typo. The header states:
"Base Price: $39,675 0-to-60-mph time: 4.8 sec Quarter-mile time: 13.6 @ 105 mph" But the test results state: C/D TEST RESULTS: Zero to 60 mph: 4.8 sec Zero to 100 mph: 11.8 sec Zero to 130 mph: 21.1 sec Street start, 5–60 mph: 5.6 sec Standing Ľ-mile: 13.5 sec @ 106 mph Top speed (governor limited): 145 mph Braking, 70–0 mph: 157 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.89 g Which could it be???

All of us who have done the research on the 335i know that it is THE best bang-for-the-buck sedan when tunability and all-around performance are considered. The fact C & D has outlined this in their article is a nice confirmation.
The 1-series (although only a coupe) will be the 2008 bang-for the -buck champ. It costs about $5K less, has better 6-piston brakes, has better weight distribution (48 front/ 52 rear) and weighs 3373 lbs (200 lbs less than the 335i coupe). A year from now there be 450 hp/500 ft-lb torque tuned 135is running around weighing close to 3000 lbs and blowing away nearly every other car (regardless of price) at road courses around the world. http://bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/V...fications.aspx

I test drove one along with Mustang GT, & a GTO...just to make sure....and for whats its worth.......it drove like a BATTLE SHIP.
The mustang felt like mario cart and made me sound like Joe Dirt. and the GTO (while faster than greased lighting!) could not match the refinement and balance the e90 (with ZSP). Traction control only seemed to brake and cut the throttle...it was also incredibly intrusive. I'll take my "slow" 330i any day.
