335 SE model.... would you?
Hi,
When looking for 330d - the minimum was that it had to be an M Sport! Are there any mechanical differences from the 335 SE & M sport - is it all cosmetic? Also does it state SE on the log book? Not sure if it's a ball ache turning it into M sport spec..... I want a easy life |

I believe it will state SE/M-Sport on all forms of vehicle check (HPI, etc) and I'm almost certain it's on the V5 document.
Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong, but I think for the E92 335, both SE and M-Sport have the same suspension (the M-Sport one). The bumpers and window surround trim are different, as are the stock wheels and also the seats. As far as I know, that's the lot!

I bought a 335i SE as could not find and M-sport within budget with the extras I wanted.
To answer your questions. Yes it will show as an SE on the v5 The bumpers, window trim and inside roof liner are all diff As is the steering wheel. Suspension on the 335 is the same. Other than that I believe they are the same Mine has sports seats but think that was an extra, I fitted an msport kit to mine and csl reps How it looked when bought And now I've even painted the window trim black now which is not shown in this pic |

My first 335i was an SE and I regretted it, so second time around I made sure I got M-sport. You will probably end up spending the difference to make it look like it.
Steering wheel Gear knob (manual only) Handbrake Seats Kick plates Bumpers/skirts Wheels Chrome trim If you price up changing all that then you might aswell just pay extra for the m-sport |

Apart from all the mention bodykit, interior bits. The roof linen is dark grey instead of bright colour one. The door sills has a m sport logo on.
Buy an Se if you don't want a msport. If u want a msport and you buy a se... U spend more to change bit by bit into a msport. Save yourself hassle and add extra budget to buy the msport. |

I bought mine for 7900 with 65k on the clock, the m sport kit and wheels cost £2000 fitted. So £9900 all in.
Mine already had msport sills, seats so assume someone else did that. Defo easier to buy an m-sport from the off but i could not find one with the spec I wanted for less than 12k Which is: Auto Paddle shift Idrive Pdc Black gloss trim inside Sub 70k miles Fsh |

The dark window trim is also an option. If you want your car to look like a M Sport, it would be wise to buy one. I'd imagine if you do some DIY you could buy an SE and have full M Sport spec and still save a sizeable amount of cash. I personally think the 230 wheels that are SE only are one of the best looking wheels on the E92. The SE front is a little plain, but add an aero splitter and it's better than the M Sport. The M Sport steering wheel is nicer as is the gear knob, but door sills are trivial. If the OP is on a budget, he might be better buying a newer lower mileage SE over an M Sport. |

I think most se don't come with sports seats unless its a 335d? I really can't remember since ita a long time ago when i car hunt. If op fancy going over all the trouble turning a se into a ...well ... An msport to make it look like any other msport , its upto him. Its all about finding the right car with the rigt options ready for msport conversion. Personally , if the difference isn't huge , i wouldn't bother. Although se with aero bumper is nice, i think its because we don't see many of them round hence why some people think they are better? I really like the lci msport , much more aggressive lines etc. |

e90 does not have M-Sport suspension also the SE does not have msport seats as standard.

Personally I'd save a bit more and get the one you really want!
If you know already that you know you want an M Sport, why buy an SE? Every time you see it you will think "Hmmm, I wish I'd saved a bit more and got the M Sport" |

It's not a case of saving - it's just that the E90 335d with low miles are holding their value & I don't want to pay 20-22k for an obsolete model.
I'm in no rush, so I might wait a bit for those price to fall. Also - thanks sparky, that's ruled out the SE! I can source the interior parts easily but I don't want to change the suspension etc.... Cheers all |

I chose an E92 335i SE for two reasons. Firstly, I prefer the 230 wheels to any of the M-Sport wheels of that era. Secondly, the spec/condition of the SE I bought was perfect and it was local. |

I bought one primarily down to the fact that money wise when I purchased mine they were a fair bit cheaper than the Sport, plus apart from a bit of exterior garnish as described above the SE is a Sport at least in E92 guise. I got a car with less miles too than any Sport I saw with the same spec at the time.
My SE has the lighter headlining which i hate as over time although light it can/does look dirty in places, when cleaned it looks fresher but never right, hence that black headline I purchased from you Jamel. Plus things like the steering wheel are a bit different too. But the tables are turned somewhat with the 4door model unless you look the SE gets the standard seats, no Xenons and even the Sport compared with the Coupe you don't get things like Xenons and as stated by Sparky68 models lack sport suspension. If money's not the issue and I know it's painful, but it's well worth sitting back looking and perhaps holding your nerve to see if the right car comes out the wood work. Me if given the ideal option I'd of gone for a 335i Sport Saloon or Tourer I really would of, but there were simply none about Last edited by old grey steve; 07-30-2014 at 04:49 AM.. |

I converetd my last SE to M sports including suspension, roof and so on. But on paper it was always SE and always will be. So wait for the right one. Also, try to get one with rear folding seats on E90. They make a lot of difference.
