JB2'H' Thoughts and Review

I first started with just the JB2 & ITG Filter a couple of weeks ago and absolutely could not be more happy! It ran flawless, no cels, no codes, PERFECT! Then i decided to give a try at helping Terry out and testing the new "Hot Pill" some. Install was a breeze, taking around 15minutes once you get the hang of taking everything apart and the DME connectors, etc. Drove for a good while before i did any pulls, to let it adapt. Finally tonight, i opened her up and let her loose.

Down the highway, quite a bit, is a newly acquired housing division where they just laid the roads and construction had yet to begin and was perfect for some testing and pulls. It had a few great, pretty long straights, and also some good twisties. Did around 10 runs around a section of it and was amazed!! The power was ALWAYS there, no matter what gear. Coming out of the turns into the straights in 2nd and letting her go was Engine temp stayed at its regular 230-240ish range. No Cels, No codes, PERFECT!!

So i finished with my little fun "runs" and hit the highway. After awhile looking for some friendly cars to do some pulls with, i started heading home. I noticed on my way back a Black M3 vert, who i initially thought was my friend that lives down the road from me. So i hurried up and pulled aside him and starred.... This is where it got embarrasing. I see a girl in the passenger seat and a guy that looked just like me friend, but wasnt.... So i slowed down thinking I was a complete ass gunning it and pulling aside him. Next thing i know, he downshifts to 2nd and is ready to show his girlfriend what he's got. Little did he know... i am not completely stock He gunned it first, then i followed. In a matter of a couple of seconds i was already flying by him and even had enough time to slow down b/c of the car in front of me and still be ahead. Yes... I know, its a Vert, which are indeed Heavy, but it was still fun to do 1 pull against someone tonight.

Overall, i can definitely feel the added power of the "H" pill. Its been only 3 days so i havent been able to run it to much. Tonight was my first real pulls and runs with it. Ill definitely keep this Thread updated with some Videos and pulls in a couple of days, as well as my future overall impressions of the JB2H.

FWIW, I am running Chevron 93 octane, JB2'H' , ITG Filter, & 2nd Cat Deletes....Also its a Manual

"H" pill is a resistor that adds onto the JB2 that raises boost .5-1psi peak boost (to 12.5 psi peak IIRC)
That gives an extra 12-15 rwhp and you need to be on 93 Octane gas to run the "H" version

"R" is his race gas map
It brings boost up to about 14.5 psi (with a peak of 15 briefly) and you need to run 96+ Octane with it.

+1. On the H the 12.5psi is a spike, it holds around 12psi. The R holds around 13.75-14psi (spike 15), and the H+R used together hold around 14.5psi (spike 15.5).

Yeah, sorry Terry, I should of put the "spike" in there instead of peak.
I was going off memory from watching your boost gauge on the runs, and on the dyno.

Are the 91 octane people having problems with the "H" pill?

I have a few out there just so I will know what happens if a 93 octane guy runs 91 octane, but I will not be officially suggesting the hot pill it. 91 octane, especially California 91, is just horrible.

The R is a switch, the H is fixed and attaches to the harness. I suspect many people will find the H works great in the winter, but remove it when temps get over 90 degrees during the summers. Pretty easy to put in and out.

You can switch between JB2H and JB2HR (race gas). JB2H is 93 octane recommended and JB2HR is 96 or better octane required.

For the JB2HR I raised the octane requirement to 97. Makes a little more power that way.

What exactly is the formula for octane mixture ratings?
50% 91 octane added to 50% 100 octane will yield what octane???
for 97 octane would you have to mix 75% 100 octane with the 91 octane fuel?

Terry,

Does the JB2R make more HP with the H pill or just on the standard JB2?

When will the H pill be ready for purchase?

Do you recommend that the H Pill is removed in the summer even for those using 93 octane? And then if you have down pipes, you were saying you can use the H Pill as long as you have downpipes? What is the technical reason for this? Does the engine create less boost under the same conditions with downpipes? And even with down pipes do you still recommend removing the pill during the summer months? (with 91 octane & downpipes)

We'll have to play it by ear for summer use on 93, but I suspect in many areas it will need to be removed. The ECU raises boost as ambient temperatures go up, which is normally a good thing, but with higher than stock boost levels it can become a code issue. If users get limp codes during the summer with the hot pill they will need to remove it.

The downpipes and hot pill on 91 octane is still in testing, but the slightly reduced backpressure seems to have a positive effect on total timing advance. But if someone wants a 100% code free setup the normal JB2 is the hot ticket regardless of octane.
