My CA told me 20 GB, but you want to leave little spare capacity. I did ED and am still waiting for final delivery back here. So I have not had a chance to verify. I am expecting delivery this week and will let you know. |

True. I just keep it on the external drive. It reads fast anyway (no lag) so it doesnt bother me. It also reads FLAC which is pretty great.

Wow... it reads FLAC files! Is this on an actual external HD or a USB stick?

What do you mean by "external drive" exactly? An actual external HDD or a USB stick? I was told never to use an external HDD in there and so this is why I'm asking.

The iDrive system in all MY2014+ cars with the touchpad iDrive controller have 20GB of storage for music. Anything prior to that has 12.5GB of storage. BMWs never came with anything but 12.5GB or 20GB of storage. Also, filling that storage all the way shouldn't be a concern because it's not a descrete hard drive, it's just a part of the 200GB iDrive hard drive.
As for playing music, you can either load music on to a USB stick and plug that into the USB port, or you can plug in an iPhone/iPod touch/iPod or Samsung Galaxy into the USB port. If you have some other brand MP3 player, it will almost certainly NOT work if you plug it into the USB port. |

Technically its a MicroSD card plugged into an adapter plugged into the USB slot lol.... So its essentially a USB stick.

My testing is complete
I've finally gotten around to testing the USB port's capabilities and it is capable of reading my 128Gb USB stick as well as all the files stored on it.

MP3s? Have you tried FLAC (lossless compression)? I need to try MP3s. My FLACs don't work on my M.

Yes, but MP3 files has already been lossy-ly compressed. Turning it to FLAC will not make the sound quality better. It will only make it 15 to 20 times larger.
