CBS tells me I have an inspection coming up. Thoughts?
Brought my car in for an oil change (dealership had a coupon out, cheaper than parts) and of course there were like three other things they claimed needed to be done. Microfilter, no, I'm not paying $200, I'll take care of that on amazon for $20. Brakes, okay, I'll do those myself when they're ACTUALLY worn and not just getting there.
But one thing on the list is actually in CBS as well - I'm at about 62k miles and CBS says I'm due for an inspection in about 1800mi. Anyone know what this inspection entails? Is there a DIY I can follow? I'm not inclined to spend $300 or whatever it is with no indication of anything wrong, but I also feel like it should be at least easy enough to verify everything on the checklist.

routine maintenance
the computer is prolly doing it automatically after a year between oil change intervals. i had an oil change supposedly done at an indy and i dont think they reset my computer so i got a service light. Thats probably what it is if you dont have any specific codes...

CBS is condition based service, the car tells YOU what it needs done. Some maintenance is CBS based, like oil as you've experienced. Some isn't, like spark plugs - those are up to the dealer to tell you when to change them out, or else you simply have to know the interval yourself by reading the service manual [45k for N54/N55 engines, 100k for NA engines, per BMW].
Anyway, point being, one of the condition-based service indicators is just a general inspection, but it's more detailed than the dealer's typical "yep, tires have air, yep, engine sounds right" or whatever else that 32-point thing they always do is. Having it come up in CBS doesn't necessarily mean anything is WRONG, it's just time for a look-over. So my question is, what's the checklist for that so I can do it myself rather than pay the $150 or whatever it is BMW wanted for the dealership to do it.

It is the 30,000 mile general inspection requirement. Look up BMWs' old Service II check list and that's basically what it is. Checking the lights, horn, CV boots, door locks, lubing hinges, etc.
