Ordering M235i - First Time Ordering BMW
I'd like to order an M235i for delivery sometime in December, I'll be leasing. From what I've seen around here delivery takes about 60 days from ordering to delivery. A dealer I will possibly not be returning to said the same but my inquiry at the time was for a 228i.
Now I'm reading things about no allocations and non-refundable deposits. I thought October would be a good time since it's about 2 months away from some good end of year lease incentives and the Ultimate Drive Event is coming to town at that time which will help me with an extra $1k off. My noob question is, should I go into a dealer now and hand them a deposit for an October/November/December allocation (whatever gets me a car in December) or just wait it out and see what the deal is October? I live in Florida, and just read here about that non-refundable law. |

There is no advantage in waiting and in fact if you wait you may not get the allocation. If a BMW incentive comes before your car arrives you will get it. Most of us that ordered in April/May were able to get a $1,000 incentive that was not available when we ordered. There is a total of 60 M235's in the entire US at dealers according to autotrader.com. A couple months ago there were 150-170 available so what's that tell you. If someone gets to the dealer before you then your screwed. Ask ehagerty who went to the dealer after me and is still waiting to get his from March or early April. They are not building many for some unknown reason.

Allocations are given to dealers so that they can order special orders for customers. Larger dealers, and dealers that make more sales, get more allocations. Dealers can also trade allocations with other dealers. If a dealer really wants to make a sale, then they can try and trade with another dealer. For example, if dealer 1 has a 7 series and dealer 2 needs a that 7 series for a sale, and he has an allocation for a custom order, then dealer 1 can trade his 7 for the allocation. 2015 build cycle is in full swing, allocations should be easier to get very soon. Go ahead and put a deposit for an allocation to get a custom order for your time frame. Just make sure you work with a dealer who will return your deposit is he can't get an allocation. Or, simply tell them you will give them a deposit gladly when an allocation is available and it's yours. These aren't rare cars. BMW will make more. |
