Cold Weather Testing JB2R, 12.60 @ 113mph+
I just ran my otherwise stock 335i Steptronic Sedan this morning. Just have the JB2R, 95 Octane, and 19"s (which don't help!). There are no decent tracks around here within 8hrs of us, so the Gtech AND Video will have to do for now. My highest trap was 113.6+mph. My Lowest ET was a 12.608. Not bad considering the road was very cold in the morning, and this was running on General street tires. This goes to show that as long as the road is not moist, the cold weather will only help the performance of the 335i. Again, if you look at how the car shifts into 3rd right at redline, right before 100mph, you will see the numbers are real. Furthermore, my track slips are normally faster than my GTECH numbers. Again, if you look at the 1/4 mile light, the speedo is around 118mph. You can see this is 3 runs in a row, only minutes apart. Also, you can see I have to feather the throttle, and actually shift out of 1st gear around 5500rpm, can you imagine how much launching with boost and using DRs would help my times! Now if a K&N, BMC, filter boosts me to 114mph, I would be impressed. Because out of dozens of runs, I can't break out of 113mph range currently

Nice runs Warren! We need to have you test the H and maybe a drop in air filter. The official word is the H is too much for 91 octane, but in cooler weather it seems to work very well in testing so far..

Warren, the K&N for $60 will get you that extra .5 mph I'll bet on it.
Again, I got +4.3 peak rwhp but got 12+ rwhp gain from 4800-6100 rpms and got like 8 rwhp gain from 6100-700 rpms. And that was with a fan blowing MAYBE 25 mph winds into the car. You'll get MUCH more wind driving on the road. We' should meet up soon too. |

Naseem, have you had a chance to flip the "R" switch yet? I just installed the Hot pill yesterday and i can definitely feel an increase in power throughout. We need to do some more runs now haha. I think ill be able to hang this time around....unless you secretly have race gas and R on.

The steptronic definitely dislikes you shifting when you break loose. It behaves real funky when you lose traction. Does your G's look like mine?

I'm spraying a 350 shot of nitrous...secretly LOL! On a serious note, let me run the 100 oct out and I'll give you a few more runs. Did you get the R switch? It'll be interesting to see the results.

Warren,
We could meet up next week. I'm actually currently on v2.0.1 I didn't like the quick fix Shiv made to the v2.0.2 6AT map by having the power drop off significantly in the top 300 rpms. But v2.0.1 doesn't quite have as much power up top (I don't think) as v2.0.2 But v2.0.1 seems like it has much more power down low. I'm back to having difficulty launching the car again, actually even more so now with v2.0.1 than v1.47 as v2.0.1 has more boost throughout the 3000-5000 rpm range. I may just go back to v2.0.2 and would have to paddle shift early so it changes gears before I get to 6700 rpms. Are you running the "H" pill or are you still just on the standard JB2? |

, I am not getting a great 60' time, but still 0-60 in 4.2x and 12.6x qtr mile with the thing shifting out of 1st gear at around 5500rpm, and letting off the throttle! I think my numbers would be pretty impressive if I put DRs on the car. But yes, next weekend is fine, just let me know the day before. As long as my car is still running, (some more sport bikes want to canyon race against me this weekend again), LOL. What is interesting is I got in my 06 M3 this morning, and accelerated out of the parking lot with the DSC, talk about getting sideways really quick. And punching the M3 in 1st gear in cold weather, and the thing just lights it up. Kind of crazy, because without LSD, the 335i still launches much easier. Probably that whole upper rpm power band characteristic of the M3. I am going to have to do some runs on the M3 in this cold weather to see where it is at. Still probably around 13.01-13.3 @ 106-107mph. |

Absolutely sick! I had the oil changed today at the dealership and then begin offering rides...the techs all stated..."This is quicker than the M6"! What the hell have you done to it? I popped the hood and stood back...giving them a chance to look and tell...I'm surely impressed with the performance.
Hopefully the rain will stop and we'll get to the track in the morning.

Yeah, but even when I do feather the throttle a bit at the launch it breaks it loose a lot with v2.01 V2.0.2 had much smoother power delivery and allowed for better throttle modulation. I might just go back to that, but it would require me to short shift at 6600 rpms to avoid that power drop at 6700-7000 rpms. That probably wouldn't make much of a difference but some I'm sure, as when at the drag strip, when i paddle shifted at 6500-6700 rpms, my times were a bit slower. Wow, you did those runs with basically no gas in your car. I won't do drag strip runs when my low fuel light is on. For some reason if the gas was to shift to one side or the other and the fuel pump suck some air at WOT.....yikes. You should always have a minimum 1/8th tank when doing that. Will meet up soon for kicks. |
