Cold Air Intake question: is tuning required?

Quick question guys: I have a 13 Mustang GT that I lightly modded. Long story short when I purchased my CAI due to the size difference from the stock one I had to retune the car due to the additional air being forced into the car. I have a 2014 m235i and I'm looking to purchase a CAI. Is this the case for the BMW? Are there intakes that require post installation tuning? I was always told that if there is no change in the tune required that the CAI is performing just like the stock one (waste of money).

thanks!
