Dyno for Dinan Software?

For those of you who have the software or are going to have it soon, do you plan on doing a dyno of it anytime soon?

I'm really curious to see what kind of power it puts out and if the dyno numbers you get are congruent to the Dinan claims. I'm thinking about getting this tune, but I don't wanna pay 2k if it's going to not put out what it promises.

I'm definitely interested in this tune, however I am waiting till spring and also want to see what the dyno numbers look like on 91 octane fuel. As Dinan has marketed the numbers on 93 and we don't have that in Colorado.

Are you sure that they use 93 octane? I went to Dinan today in Morgan Hill, CA and we dont have 93 in CA. Where did you recieve these numbers?

i believe dinan mixed with race fuel and pump gas together or they bought it from online source.

I did my research mate, go to their website and downloaded the PDF for the flash. Says it right in there...

I have an appointment to get the Dinan Flash installed on Monday. Assuming I stick with the plan, I've also made appointments before and after the flash with 3 pulls each (3 before, 3 after the flash).

The only thing I'm worried about is warranty-related... I'm going to call my SA today and ask some questions. I have the 4-year 50k mile warranty that comes with the car, but I also got the 2-year extended warranty that covers parts for the first 6 years I have the car. With the Dinan flash, I think my parts are only covered by Dinan for the first 4 years 50k miles, but those additional 2 years will NOT be covered... making me kind of reluctant to get the flash. Any thoughts on this?

Your logic is correct. Multiple people have confirmed that the extended warranty will not be available if you get the dinan tune. This is yet another reason why piggybacks are a better option, IMO...

That is correct....but you are able to remove the piggybacks whenever you desire. You cannot remove the flash.

Obviously you take them out and go back to stock, the dealer never records your VIN number like they do with the flash. I figured this would be obvious, but I guess not....

I see what you all are saying, and I've had those same thoughts as well--

Sometimes when I'm high on MJ and superparanoid, I wonder--will BMW ever FIND a way to detect a piggyback? (This, of course, will reveal my infinitely minute knowledge of piggyback engineering) With a simple software update on our cars, I feel like even a couple years down the road, they will be able to detect the modified signals sent to the ECU by a piggyback. Can someone please bring me down from my high?

Then what's the point of buying an upgrade if you just have to take it off when you go get service?

You just realized that.. Any body modification on your bmw beside at the bmw dealership would be void. However, if you modify your car like exhaust system. BMW warranty wont cover that part. However, the rest of the warrant is still in attach.

Haha... thanks for clarifying. My real question was just this: Is it worth it to void my parts warranty on pretty much the entire drivetrain after years 1-4 for this Dinan Flash... I know that it's ultimately my own decision, but I am still looking for the candid opinions of my fellow e90post comrades

1. Service is every 15,000 miles so it's an issue about once a year, if that.
2. It takes 5-15 minutes to remove and the same to install it back
3. It's many hundreds or thousands less than the flash depending on whose piggyback
4. You can resell if for most of your money back whenever you want
5. More power
6. Upgradable for free via new map downloads

That list was 60 seconds of effort, just off the top of my head.

Anyway, back towards the topic...I swore some guy on here got the flash on Monday or Tuesday and was getting a dyno run that day.

I do not think that BMW would void your extended warranty on problems that could not be clearly linked to the Dinan flash. And if Steve is right, there should not be such problems...

But it would be nice if someone could give you a straight answer on this, with specifics, such as what happens if your ring gear goes at 60k miles?

Specific to the ring gear question. Same thing that would happen if you didn't have an extended warranty. If the ring gear shreds post standard warranty, you are on the hook for the repair.

ahh, well seems that was stated in the Dinan literature... But once again, I imagine they would have to prove that the Dinan flash actually prompted the failure. That said, BMW would have to prove this based on any modification.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm all for mods as stock sucks
