Detailing Tint advice

My EB m235i is currently in the middle of the Celtic sea, should be arriving 1st week of August.
Any suggestions on where to get the car detailed and/or window tint in the San Diego area?

thanks...

This guy is amazing. Dropped off my car, he drove me to the office then picked me up when it was ready. Best tint work I ever had performed.

Hi - I'm in San Diego and will be getting an EB m235i also. What type of tint did you get and can you say how much it cost? Do you have pictures?

Thanks!

Alvin uses Solar Guard High Performance tint.
I have 30 on the sides and 28 on the rear window.
Don't have pics at the moment, but will take some over the weekend and post.

When are you getting your m235i? What interior did you get?

Did you do the front windows as well? I've seen that the fronts must be at least 70% or even 88%. I was wondering what the tint shops recommend.

I got EB with Terra, and it is scheduled for 12/4 Performance Center Delivery.

Looking forward to the pictures.

No tint on front windshield.
EB with terra is a great color combo, love mine.
You traveling to east coast for the PCD?

I'm glad you like your EB/Terra! I was afraid of the black interior due to the heat here, which is also why I'm trying to learn about tint options. I thought about the red interior briefly, but it was too bold for me. I was afraid the oyster would get too dirty. Plus, I love that shade of brown leather.

Are the front side windows and back side windows the same tint? Were there any infrared and UV blocking options that aren't dark? I'm a little concerned about California tint laws, although I see many, many vehicles that break it.

I am going to the east coast for the PCD. I'll drive it back from there. Every review of PCD is fantastic, and everyone says to do it. Since I don't expect to have this opportunity again soon, I thought I should.
Thanks!

JB

If you need someone more north of SD, Mr. Tint in Escondido did mine in ceramic.

I'm near RB, so that would be close. Do you have any pictures? Are you happy with the result? What is the ceramic like?

I've read that SD Tint is good. I haven't heard about Mr. Tint. Ceramin seems like what I'd want for the protection. I want that more than any darkening effects. But I'm still trying to understand the different types.

I've used this shop for the past 4 cars I've had, they do a great job.

The main advantage of Ceramic is the maximum heat suppression along with no interference with radio (I think). I had 15% done on the 2.

I had ceramic all the way around on my car - 35% side+rear, 70% windshield. Recently had to replace the windshield and I can feel the facial skin cancer setting in.

Kidding... not trying to be insensitive, but just saying it makes a huge difference. The amount of heat rejection it provides is huge. I guess the only downside is on those rare, cold Socal mornings when the heat coming through the windshield would be welcome...

That looks great! Did the shop say anything about CA laws? I've heard anything from no tint on front windshield and front sides to 70% transmission for front sides.

I believe both are correct. Technically you can have tint on the sides which transmits 70% of light, while practically anything that makes a visible change is not allowed. 70% is light enough to pass inspection, but most people buy carbon or dye based tints, which are not dark enough to be effective. If you used ceramic, even a 70% is effective at cutting down heat.

So, if you're going with a ceramic, using 70% is fine. If you're not, I wouldn't put anything on the windshield. On the sides, it's always a toss up, but conservative amounts of tint should be fine.

All,

Mr. Tint in Escondido is running a deal on Amazon local - $140 for up to five windows for a Comfort Series metal/dye tint. Ceramic is extra. This is 50% off. I'm strongly considering getting this based on the previous recommendation for this shop

Are you from Otay Ranch? I might have seen your 2 when I visited my in-laws.
