Bedding in carbon ceramic brakes
I pick up my car Thursday and it has CCB. What is the recommended way to bed in the brakes. I have read 10x hard 30 sec in between then let cool. 10x med 30 sec let cool then 10x hard again.

That's a good question and I'd be interested to hear everyone's method in breaking them in. I recently read an article where a test driver complained that the CCB's felt sluggish and with weak peddle feel. The BMW tech responded that that particular car's brakes weren't bedded-in correctly.

The purpose for bedding in the brake pads and rotors is no different regardless of compounds or rotor material, so any procedure you find out there, such as at the StopTech or other, are still valid. However, the main difference is the ceramic rotors are much more difficult to bring them up to temp, so the repetitions in stopping is much higher. As an example, see the attached McLaren M12-C's ceramic bedding in procedure. I do not know if McLaren is using Brembo SGL rotors though, but I do not believe the process is different with any.

^ Good stuff. Just be sure to find a safe stretch of road to apply this method.

I have 1200 miles now and I haven't done any hard braking or bedding the pads at all yet. Over the weekend I went on a 150 mile road trip on heavy rain condition. At I was getting off the last exit. I realize the brakes are barely working I had to puch it hard for it to slowly stop from 75-30mph. I should definitely start bedding the pads and do some hard braking on dry weather right?

Any suggestions / ideas on where we can bed these CCBs in properly around these parts? I'm here thinking that even renting a 1/4 with a handful of owners wouldn't allow some of these procedures safely, or am I wrong on that?

I've now done 120 miles in mine tiptoeing around Surrey. Anyone know whether you should be doing this crazy procedure from new or after BMW's recommended to take it easy for about 600 miles?

I have not done it for street or track, all is working quite well. I see no reason to bed them in. I have to add that after a one track session, the brakes feel significantly better in stopping power and the grabby feeling improves with slightly more pedal travel where the pedal feel is perfect for me.

A bunch of us just finished our BMW Canada ED Tour with 15 M3's/M4's (all CCB equipped) and a quick 1200+ km's. Driving ranged from mild to wild. No one performed a bedding in procedure and the engineers we met said it wasn't necessary as long as the first couple hundred km's didn't involve extreme braking. All 15 cars performed flawlessly the whole trip.

Just coming back from a trip to italy.
First time temperatures got into the high 30's (celcius of course) with my CCBs. Brakes began to squeak like hell - not only during light braking - even while driving corners you could hear them... when the car has stopped completely and I wanted to go again it made a sound like I was trying to get a train going every time.. don't know how to describe it - like "tooooooot" anyone else knows what I mean? |

Very detailed procedure posted above - typical McLaren!
I would say the main thing is to use the brakes very hard after a few hundred miles...eg you gotta trigger ABS intervention or you're not doing it right. Folks that have never driven on track often have no idea how hard you can actually brake. Drop an anvil on the pedal a couple of times and your pads will be nicely bedded in. Squeaking brakes is sometimes caused by the pads/discs glazing over due to continuous gentle usage. The solution - stop pussying around and drive your M the way it was designed to be.

I bedded my CCB at the weekend and I must say the discs now have a distinct coating of brake pad so seems like it's worked. It's a mighty old process which took a good few miles.
This 911 process on the link below seemed a little (only a bit) more straight forward that the McLaren one. http://www.total911.com/how-to-bed-i...eramic-brakes/ |

Bedded mine in
I did mine a couple of thousand miles ago and the brakes feel great and with no squeal. I used the approach in this article, clearly whilst sticking to speed limits
