Worth getting the thermal coating on downpipes?
I just got my UR catted downpipes but of course, the day I'm going to install them I find out that I can get the thermal coated catted downpipes for essentially the same price. :sad0147: I'll be out of pocket the shipping costs to send the ones I have back and shipping for the thermal pipes. Is it worth the hassle and the wait of returning these to get the thermal coated pipes?

thermal coating is absoultely worth it. and just as an fyi...there is a huge difference over the spray can type coating and a real ceramic coating that needs to be put on with a spray gun.

ceramic coating is a process of applying ceramic powder on one (or both) sides of the tube followed by baking it on.
Results are much lower heat dissipation from the pipes to the engine compartment resulting in lower thermal stress on the engine and other nearby parts and lower IAT (less heating on intake). Dont be lazy, man, google is your friend...

sorry dude, but it was a reply to M2002's post.
My opinion to your question - find some shop nearby who does thermal coating and ask them for quotation. Same result, but maybe cheaper + faster.

Yeah, I caught that after I already posted. Thanks. Anybody know of a place in the DFW area to bring them?

How much power are you trying to get from this, or what else are you trying to accomplish by coating it?
I guess if you want to try and make it as efficient as possible, and keep it from heating up the components around it, then it would be ok to do. -Don |
