6FL Retrofit Questions
Hi,
We recently acquired another BMW which is very similar to mine ('07 335i with a later build date of 7/07). After playing around with the iPod integration (6FL) I'm trying to sort out if I could retrofit it to my earlier build 11/06 even if it takes a bit of messing around with module swaps. I've read through many of the threads and am thoroughly confused about what is actually required to use the 6FL and which pieces are/aren't compatible with it. My car has almost every option (including iDrive/Navigation/Bluetooth) and it has the original Professional unit without the preset buttons. Also has satellite and CD changer prep, though I'm not sure that really matters in this discussion. I pulled out the trunk liner and there is one module (TCU) present on the right side (P/N: 84109126534). Nothing is installed below it. My understanding is the MULF2 HIGH is required to provide the 6FL USB functionality. My question is if any other items are required (aside the USB port and a few cables) and if it would work on an older car - anyone who has done this, your advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm also open to hear from others that went with alternative options (glovebox MOST retrofit, aftermarket) and to hear how the functionality and cost compares. Some of the aftermarket solutions are pretty expensive, so I figure if I'm going to spend the cash either way, maybe the OEM version would be better. Thanks for any insight you can provide! |

you worked it out....
u need the mulf in the boot, the wiring and to connect it into the fibre optic MOST loop... and the coding so your car sees the mulf) later cars (and you can then rip out the tcu and the mulf) use a later, better "combox". this lets you have BT calls, BT streaming of music via a phone to the car and use a usb connection... (however BT music impacts quality as does any form of compression, hence I rip all my CD's as is to .wav files and connect using the 3.5 line in with menus via USB connection using a 160 gig ipod). from what I read tcu's often break, so a swap out to combox could be a cute move and more of the coders seem to prefer this later better method Last edited by BOTUS; 07-14-2014 at 04:50 PM.. |

possibly need a software update on the ccc unit aswell....could be wrong....
the combox will not work with ccc nav unless you do the cic retrofit + combox which is worth doing at the moment as the price on these have seemed to plummeted due to folks trying to get hold of NBT units. other than that its a mulf2 high or some 3rd party kit like the dension |

Thanks so much for the information. From what I've seen so far, the CIC unit alone appears to be going for quite a bit more cash ($600-$1000) than a MULF2 High ($150-$250).
I'll have to take a peek inside the other car to see how it is configured. I presume that I'll need the port/cable assembly as well as a few other cables? From my reading it appears that the USB hub is optional and provides a second port inside the glove box area. I may have to start sourcing the other parts for this, it would be a huge bonus. Now if only it was so easy to add the Comfort Access that I've fallen in love with from the other car..... |

You can do the 6FL in your car without upgrading to the CIC.
We have a retrofit kit for you which includes all parts and coding so all you will have to do it just fit the parts according to our instructions. http://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/bmw-...rface-retrofit |

See this is where I keep getting confused... The car in question was built in 11/2006. I've had answers that tell me it cannot be done and others that say it can. Anyone out there that has retrofit into a vehicle PRIOR to 3/2007?
My understanding is that other changes might be necessary - I haven't found a confirmation as to whether the original CCC works with the retrofit. The newer car has the Rev 1 unit. Last edited by Zap; 07-16-2014 at 12:16 PM.. |

Is there a write-up anywhere that outlines the amount of effort and/or how the harnesses required? I poked around in the cars again and there is NO extra wiring present in the older car, which makes it seem like there are a number of things that need to be added/modified/changed.

Yep, the TCU is indeed in the trunk, but there are no other connections present in the trunk for the MULF. I presume there is additional wiring beyond the cables that are run to the armrest for the port itself?
Is there are parts list/cost breakdown anywhere? Is it possible to get a kit without the MULF if I've located one? Last edited by Zap; 07-29-2014 at 08:52 AM.. |
