Oil consumption

Amigos I believe Im getting jipped by the dealer this is the second time my cars OIL lamp comes on, I have no engine leaks on my drive way, CANT see any leaks on the engine. What could it be either the DIESEL is burning oil or the dealer is stiffing me with not adding the correct amount? Please feel to respond to me ASAP. Gracias!!

P.D. I checked the oil stick and it showed low oil

I just did a 12,000 mile oil change interval.
I never had to add oil in between. Was down approximately 1/2 quart after 11,000 miles. Driven daily, hard sometimes, stop and go traffic, etc.
My catch can also catches all the blow by oil, would expect maybe 1/2 a cup after 10,000 miles.

If you are loosing oil, you are burning it past the pistons. Or, you are getting a lot of blow by routed back to your intake/engine.

Maybe PR doesn't have any biodiesel in the fuel. Bio will stick around and get into the oil making the level good.

I've had other diesels that required an extra quart at 5000 miles, and I would be the one to change the oil.

I have always found Amsoil to be quite good. Sure wish they would get actual certifications for the applications they claim to satisfy, such as LL04.

I would suggest to use your dip stick to check the level after the oil change to see if they are adding the correct amount. Other than that keep in mind that our engines are designed to burn a little, it is the german thing, I never had oil light to come up yet but when I had benz that was a normal thing to add a little so often between oil changes. Harder to push more oil your engine will burn, that is something to keep in mind

If you get half a cup at 10k something is wrong, that's way to much..

Yeah when I picked up my oil from the dealer they actually told me that it was supposed to take 8 but would only fill to 7.5, but I my car took about 7.9 qts to fill.

Last time I checked the LLO4 list on the BMW TIS, none of the Amsoil oil were on the list of LL04 approved oil.

Depends on the size of the cup.
This is smaller than a BMS can.

Diesels do get a lot of blow by.

I haven't reached the 10k mark yet, but I am speculating 1/4-1/2 cup. Time will tell. Have 9k more to go!

Why do you prefer Amsoil product, I prefer Liqui Moly brand for diesels...

I wanna say I've had 2 oil changes on the 335d and one on the x5d and no oil light came on. The x5 has an actual oil measurement on the computer and mine was at full right after the change.

Where's the oil light that's coming on?

The Amsoil datasheet say:
It is recommended for European gasoline or diesel vehicles requiring any of the following performance specifications:
VW 504.00/507.00
Mercedes-Benz 229.51
BMW LL-04
Porsche C30
The Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 datasheet say:
Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 has the following builder approvals:
BMW Longlife 04
MB-Approval 229.31/229.51
Volkswagen (Gasoline/Diesel) 504 00 / 507 00
Porsche C30
Chrysler MS-11106
Peugeot/Citroën Automobiles B71 2290 B71 2297
The difference here is that Amsoil recommend their oil vs. BMW approving an oil.

Mine has always required a half quart after the oil change when checked 10 minutes after shutdown. If the dealership is only giving you 8, then you're only burning a half quart over 13k miles, that's not bad.

Check your turbo oil feed lines if you're looking for a leak

Cos it has a dipschtik. More precise anyway. If you want to read off the sensor, you can do that through BMWHat.
