Rear Fog Lights

The owners manual has a section on the rear fog lights but as usual the switch on the U.S. cars is non-functionable. I know there is mod for the E92, but has anyone figured out how to make it work for the F82

Wasn't there a plastic stopper in the back of the blank switch on the E92 and all you had to do was remove it to get the lights to work? Can you post a screenshot of the location the fog light switch is in the manual? I'll try to mess around with it to see if its the same deal as the E9X.

should be like the f10 ... replace light switch with euro part number and should work without coding

That's the mistake I made in my E92. I bought the Euro switch and later found out that all I had to do was remove some sort of stopper on the US switch for it to work. Wasted money on the Euro switch. I want to find out if it is the same thing with the F82 before I go ordering a Euro switch.

This was the fix on the E92. Shaving the plastic tabs on the US switch enabled the rear fogs. I'll try to find out if it's the same for the new M3.

How did that work? Was the fogs on every time the headlights were on ? Confused as the us switch has no fog button ... You don't want to be one of those tools they drive around with rear fog on when it isn't needed do you.?

I did the Mod in the E92 M3 and it worked flawlessly. You could only turn on the rear fog lights when headlights were on.

I noticed that in the F82 M3. The button/switch for the read fogs wiggles a little when touched

The US switch does have a fog button. It's just not labeled and it comes with 4 tabs that prevent you from pressing the button down. My area occasionally has dense fog so this mod would be useful.

really? ... can you take a picture? Is the button just not labeled? I would be interested in possibly doing this to the 550, if the switch is similar

I thought the mod would force rear fogs on all the time with headlights on from what was being described above.

I did this mod to the switch on my 135i and it worked like a champ. Pretty sure all of the switches are the same, and will save you some money instead of going with a euro switch.

I had a hunch that other people with different models would also be interested in doing this mod and sure enough there was already a DIY for it in the F30 forum. Good news is this mod can be done. Bad news is you'll have to code it after modifying the button for it to work. Pics of the rear fogs on an F30 don't look good to me so I will pass on this mod.

Note: The OP in the thread below removed the whole switch assembly in order to remove the button but this is not necessary. You can remove the button by simply prying it out using the notch on the bottom of the button with something like a flathead screwdriver wrapped with a soft cloth.

After looking at the link to the thread above, I now understand why it wasn't making sense to me. The lighting switch for the F10 is completely different from the F30/F80 switch pictured in the thread above. The switch in my vehicle is completely flat (no buttons or faux buttons) ... so I was thinking that the mod made the rear fogs on with headlights regardless. This looks like a very simple mod and will absolutely save anyone money from buying the Euro switch that wants rear fogs! See below picture for reference:

Seems like a very easy mod to the switch. Anyone who needs help with the coding ... send me an e-mail ... I do coding for forum members @ no charge locally & remotely.

FWIW the euro part number should be 61319265229, There are many versions of this switch, but since the M4 has no front fog lights the top fog light button is not there, on the Euro version there is the addition of the rear fog light button located to the bottom of where the front button should be, the photo from the manual shows this switch in question, I suspect the US versions have no fog light buttons at all. So there you go.

Rear fog coding

Saw this in another post today, now can't find it, so apologies for no credit:

"There are 5 different settings that you have to turn on in order for them (rear fogs) to work. F80/82 should be the same as the F30 and i know the US Spec models come with the Adaptive Brake lights which uses the same bulbs as the rear fogs.

Here are the 5 settings you need to code:

REM / 3063 / Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_output /New Value = nsl_L
REM / 3063 / Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_function /New Value=nebelschlusslicht
REM / 3063 / Mapping_Nebelschlussl_R_output /New Value = nsl_L
REM / 3063 / Mapping_Nebelschlussl_R_function /New Value = nebelschlusslicht
Fembody / 3060 / NSL_Verbaut / New Value= Verbaut

You can also turn the Euro Spec adaptive brake lights on. The inside brake lights and the 3rd brake light in the window strobe when you hit the brakes real hard instead of just lighting up like the standard US spec lights do.
Here is the code for that..

Fembody / 3060 / ESS_AKTIVIERBARER_AUSGANG / New Value =bremschlit_blinkend

you can find a video on youtube if you type in Dynamic Brake Lights"
