Which aftermarket warranty?

I remember reading up about a few recommendations but can't find it again using the search facility

Can anyone recommend a good company?

Why not the BMW warranty? Discussed often over on E90post and the conclusion always has been to stick with the BMW insured warranty, drop extended recovery options if you don't need it as the standard package used to include transport to nearest dealer, this may still be included but should be checked.

Mainly because it's for a Merc but also because I assumed the aftermarket is a bit more competitive and lower cost?

They are cheaper, but there's a reason for it. From what I've read most if not all non manufacture warranty has a LOT of terms and conditions. Meaning there are lots of jobs covered by a manufacturer but not by an aftermarket warranty.

Yes its usually about worming out of claims and difficult clauses with the aftermarket ones.

Aftermarket warranty (3rd party) are a nightmare.

Last year while going through some of our warranty policies, we looked at one from a lad that had just bought a car from a local garage.

It was a 56 plate vauxhall, so pretty old and low cost.

Passed the warranty to our legal department, basically, the engine block was covered and directly attached components such as pistons and crank etc.

The rest could be simply 'got out of' by the underwriter of the warranty.

Some manufacturers actually do pretty good warranties.

Personally, stick to the BMW one, unless there is a known good 3rd party one.

Don't go for one. What I do is put the same amount of money into a separate bank account equal to what it would be paying for a warranty. Then if anything goes wrong with a car I just use the money from that account. If nothing goes wrong then the money is still mine
