M4 vs i8

I know these two are different cars for different purposes.

But as far as straight line speed how will this play out?

I8 is quicker to 60 and that's where it ends. The F8x holds the advantage on all other test results including grip.

i8 needs a man's engine! In all seriousness, would be nice to have proper M engine in that vehicle..would be a monster!

F8x is quicker to 62 mph with 4.1 vs i8 has a 4.4 0-62. F8x is an all around faster car

Yeah I was going to say the same. The i8 isn't quicker to 60.

C&D tested the I8 @ 3.8 to 60mph, a tenth faster than the M4. This is from the same August issue. Yes, it's only one test from one source but proven nonetheless.

And wasn't the M3 the same as the i8, i.e. 3.8 sec to 60? Not much difference between 3.8 and 3.9.

Cheers.

M3/4 will demolish an i8 in any performance category IMHO. The looks of the i8 have grown on me, but the powerplant is too anemic for my taste. If it had another 100hp then we would be talking. I think the new NSX will blow it away. Call me a dinosaur, but as cool as the new tech is on the i8, I much prefer high revving V8 and V10 engines as the sound and feel is the benchmark. Not to mention they are a dyeing breed. I for one will keep my R8 V10 with the gated 6-speed manual forever as cars like these will not even be available within the next 5 years.

Anyone who says the M4 will destroy the I8, is dead wrong. Electric motors have a crazy amount of pull, up to a certain speed, and should not be taken as a joke.

Dudes, let's just once again look at the cars we are trying to compare against each other.

Just. let's sleep.

You could compare them performance wise. They both have similar torque figures, the M4 has more horsepower but the I8 is lighter.

We could, but one is for looks only. The other will do the real work.

Don't get me wrong, it's hard not to like the i8, but I like reality. in mine, that car would not survive.

I'll add English to this when my mother stops this idiotic phone call. Still, the point is, that i8 is a pretty and in many ways appealing creature, but in real world it doesn't hold the promise.

Yeah I agree with you but i'm pretty sure just like our M4 the I8 would be underrated so its going to be interesting to see how these two match up in a straight line.

Notice how I said "our M4" hopefully you get yours soon

Haha, you are right, it would be interesting to see, still these two are so different kind of animals, I don't think I would bother. My main criteria for cars has not changed, and that i8 can't do milk runs.

Minne should be in a boat now, AND if I don't fuck up anything more, I should have one helluva month with it soon.

How are you liking yours? I don't believe I've read review written by you yet, and I tend to read everything.

The car is wonderful and from the time I spent with it in Europe I couldn't find anything I didn't like about it. I'll have a review with pictures when it gets to Miami. I'll look forward to reading yours as well, make sure you include a coffee cup in there somehow haha

Haha. You boys can post those, I don't care enough about the thing you guys obsess to write one, but I'll do a road trip journal and post it in the regional forum, it seems to be the wild wild west of this place, so it'll fit there.

I'm pretty sure coffee is the word most used in that write up, some things usually are a given with me.
