Oil Filter Gasket Leak. Help Please!
I changed my oil on my 2007 335i and had to use an aftermarket oil filter which came with an aftermarket oil gasket etc. I noticed that once I put this on that when the engine/oil gets hot it leaks oil from under the gasket (pretty significantly) that is on the cap of the oil filter housing.
I am hoping that this is just due to using an aftermarket oil gasket. Has anyone ever seen this and what is the fix? just a new BMW gasket? Thanks in advance for any help! |

The o-ring goes in a special groove in the cap. It sounds like you didn't put it in the groove but assumed it goes all the way against the oil cap lip and if you put it there, it will deform and leak. Remove the oil cap and check the o-ring location.

I never had a problem with aftermarket oil filters.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
